Computer cannot connect to the internet

You should check the cable to see if it is connect properly to the computer and to the modem, you should try using another cable because that one may be faulty. You should check to see if the LAN drivers are missing, you can do this by clicking the start button, click on RUN and type devmgmt.msc if you see a yellow question mark at the network adopter, that would mean you need to install the drivers for the network adopter. You can get the network adopter choosing your model of computer from http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-002&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=82702&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&cc=us and follow the steps provided. If you still see the problem you would need to replace the network adopter, you can buy one at any computer store and fit it firmly in a PCI slot in your computer.

What dose the icons mean on front panel what is the little square hole for next to the mike connection

hello, it is most likely a firewire connection.
FireWire, originally created by Apple and later standardized as IEEE-1394, actually preceded USB and had similar goals. The difference is that IEEE-1394 was originally intended for devices working with lots more data -- things like camcorders, DVD players and digital audio equipment. IEEE-1394 and USB share a number of characteristics and differ in some important ways. Here's a summary:
  • Like USB, IEEE-1394 is a serial bus that uses twisted-pair wiring to move data around.
  • However, while USB is limited to 12 megabits per second, IEEE-1394 currently handles up to 400 megabits per second.
  • USB can handle 127 devices per bus, while IEEE-1394 handles 63.
  • Both USB and IEEE-1394 support the concept of a isochronous device -- a device that needs a certain amount of bandwidth for streaming data. This mode is perfect for streaming audio and video data.
  • Both USB and IEEE-1394 allow you to plug and unplug devices at any time.
hope this helps,

regards

Amar Sondhi

I want to watch video from my camcorder on pc. My camcorder has a 4 pin ieee firewire port. How many pins does the compaq presario sr1420nx have for its ieee firewire port? Should I use 800mps cables

You are on the right track. The best way to hook your computer to your camcorder is the firewire connection. There are 4 pins on the small connection on your cam, but on the PC the firewire connection is bigger and has six pins on that end. You should get the best cable that you have access to, because speed is everything when you are dealing with video, I would get the 800mps. Just make sure to check your connections on the PC and the Cam to make sure you get the right cable.

How to connect IEEE 1394 (4 pin) to computer

IEEE 1394 is commonly referred to as Firewire. Your Dell doesn't support it. You will have to purchase a firewire adapter card and install it and its drivers into your computer.

I have a toshiba Equium L300 & it cannot connect to a wireless router. I have been advised that it is missing a ethernet/wireless driver. Please advise

From what I see about the Equium, the name Equium is in use in UK only. In other European & countries USA the name is Satellite. From the specs of the model you mentioned you DO have a onboard NIC. You might have to uninstall the driver that you have due to corruption and the operating system will install a generic driver for you to use. Or you can go to Toshiba if you’re in Europe
http://www.toshiba-europe.com locate support and you can download the driver there.

If you have a driver your probably not setting (configuring the router and your computer) the network up properly.

Networking Networking: Network adapter
Wireless LAN Supported: Yes
Wireless NIC: Realtek RTL8187B
Data Link Protocol: Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g
Compliant Standards: IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED
