My 18.2 cuft hotpoint refrigerator 2 years coils overheat

My 18.2 cuft hotpoint refrigerator 2 years old coils in top freezer keeps getting red hot why? We noticed it a couple months age and would turn the temperature controller down to the lowest numbers and it would cool down but this would only work for a week or 2 but now that does not seem to help. Model number HTS18GBSARWW.

Water collects at bottom/Ice forms in top

Hi,

The defrost drain is located just under the cooling coils in the back of the freezer. You will need to unload the food and remove the shelves from the freezer. Take the back panel off from inside the freezer and you will see a hole just below the coils. Flush it with hot water using a turkey baster or small hose. See the link below for more details.

HOT POINT FRIDGE - FREEZER DRIPS WATER

The evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help. Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the back of the freezer.

I am looking for the dimension and capacity of fridge 69852990

Measure Exterior Height & Width and Depth for Dimension.
Interior Space = Then, Measure all open accessible area inside the fridge and add the two together, following the formula of H+W+L Freezer and H+W+L Refrigerator, add together and BAM ya got cubic inches.= Square inches, then divide by 1,728 (the number of cubic inches in a foot (3) Cubed.
Example 1: 60 inches tall, 42 inches wide, 30 inches deep = 75600/1728 = 43.75 Cubic Foot AREA
Example 2: fREEZER dIMS = 24 DEEP x 18 HIGH x 36 WIDE =15552/1728 is 9 CuFt. Refridgerator 36 wide, 36 high 28 deep = 36,288/1728 = 21 CuFt. + 9 CuFt. = 30 Cubic Foot Capacity.

Freezer will not keep foods frozen fridge will not keeep temp.

Sounds like a main control board problem keeping the freezer fan from working . If no air flow to the top of the freezer , the icemaker will stop working and the ice will begin to melt ( leaking from freezer ) . The coils will start to freeze up due to no air flow across them . If continued for a period of time , the cold air could return thru the return vent located in the bottom of the ref/freezer section and freeze the water tank in the refrig section , causing the no water thru dispensor .

Same problem...same fridge.

Find the correct cleaning brush. I found one at the dollar store by chance. Local hardware may have one also. You are looking for a long slender brush that resembles a under sized bottle brush, about 3/4" across the bristles, 18 to 24 inches long would be best. Unplug the frig. Vacuum out all of the dust possible, then use the brush to carefully clean between the coils Do not force the brush, sometimes twisting as you go works good. The coils are accessable either behind toe kick on front of frig or from the back, remove access panel to clean.

Refrigerator warm, freezer is fine.

Hi: It is either the defrost heater (most likely) or the defrost timer. The airway to the fresh food is clogged with frost. I doubt your freezer is packed as you could put your hand on the vent. If you block the vents this can cause the problem also. Check the defrost heater and replace if necessary. It is a wire coil in a glass tube. if the coil is broken it is bad. Look at your parts list or on line at Sears Parts. to find out where it is. I hope this helps, Jeff
