Get yourself a 2.5 hard drive box (no hard drive in it) costs less than a tenner on ebay. Remove hard drive from current laptop, put it in hdd box, connect to another computer via usb provided and you will be able to read from it like it's a flash drive or cd. Then just copy files you need to other laptop or CD or flash drive. No damage done to original hard drive.

Feedback is appreciated thanks. Jenny

How do I retrieve lost files on Toshiba satellite windows 7 system

If the computer was formatted and was untouched after you will need recovery software to get the data back GetDataBackNTFS is really good costs about $59. If the computer no longer boots into windows you will need to pull the drive out (Typically 2 screws on back) Should be a small panel with a picture of little discs on it. Plug it into another computer. If it is detected you can simply copy and paste to the second computer, then put the drive back into the laptop and use your system recovery discs to restore the computer back to factory default and copy your data back over. If you plug the drive into another computer and it is not detected, the drive is probably damaged and would require a data recovery company to retrieve the data this can cost from $500-2000 depending on the recovery method.

Mother board problem, data retrieval

If you know someone who can disassembly your laptop (for safety refer to a laptop specialist) to remove the storage device hard drive inside your laptop. You can retrieve all your data, you can use an usb external case wherein you can insert your laptop hard drive on it and it will work as your storage device of all your computer files, pretty cool because you can use that storage case in any laptop because of it's usb cable connector function.

A new power cable melted my laptop, had computer man round to retrieve data from hard drive but he says it its not moving so cannot get data. Really need it so is there any way I can repair the hard drive...

Did the computer man remove the harddrive from your laptop and connect it to some other machine?

If he did not, this is what needs to be done - the drive must be removed from the fried laptop and connected elsewhere to retrieve the data.

If he did and the drive is dead, then your chances are very limited. The only option will be to contact professional data recovery company, like ONTRACK ( for example - but you have to be prepared to pay lots of money...

My laptop is broken and i need to retrieve my photo albums. how can i do this

You will need to have someone pull the hard drive out of the laptop and extract the data from it. Chances are the data is still fine and can be retrieved. Your best bet is to find a local mom and pop type shop that can do this for you.
