Question about Nikon Coolpix 4600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Vertical whitish lines on lcd display and on pictures

Quite suddenly the camera went from working fine, to the lcd screen bring covered with lines, and the picture barely visible. I have now downloaded these pictures and they are covered with lines as well and can't really be seen at all. I have not dropped the camera or got it wet or anything like that.

I have removed the memory card and blown away any dust (not sure there was any), the batteries are newish rechargeable ones and the camera is set on the right setting for these. Also reset all the settings but it the poor display and images are still there.

Quite prepared to believe that this camera is worn out as I have had it a long time, but don't want to give up on it if it is something simple.

It's a nikon coolpix 4600 which I got in April 2005. It has been
dropped once or twice in the passed with no obvious ill-effects and
nothing that I can remember has happened to it recently - but I suppose
that previous damage may have finally caught up with it.

If it beyond hope, I am now wondering what on earth is a good replacement!

What is the make and model of the camera? It sounds defective. I work for a digital camera manufacturer and we have the same thing. Probably will need to be replaced.

You really need to do the good ol' fashioned shopping around like a good consumer would do. The digital camera market is highly competitive. If you are concerned with cost, you can look at GE digital cameras at www.general-imaging.com. The A735 is going for about $75 on Amazon.com and has a one year warranty.

Sounds like you have a faulty LCD, or the backlight in the LCD has failed.

Check eBay for a replacement screen.

I have a red line through my photos.

Answer ID 16497 Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? --> With some DSLR cameras, a normally clear LCD screen is used to display Auto Focus area brackets in the viewfinder. When power is supplied to the screen, you may sometimes see a faint vertical line appear in your viewfinder. This is perfectly normal and is just part of the finely etched circuitry used to power and illuminate the liquid crystal segments of the AF area brackets.

Blue vertical line on LCD screen

Thus meaning what display on the LCD is exactly what "enters" through the lens. Is this a hairline or thick line appearing on the LCD and does the same happen on the photos/pictures when they are downloaded on a PC? If so "something" could have infiltrated into/onto the camera lens....

Vertical lines on screen. Can't see picture at

It sounds like you need a new screen.

Buy one on Ebay for 20 Euro (inclusive of postage)

youtube.com has great videos of how to change a screen.
You will need a tweezers and very small "philips" (cross/plus head) screwdriver.
Make sure the screwdriver has magnets....so that you dont lose some screws....they are tiny.

If you buy a replacement "LCD Screen Display" on Ebay then usually all the tools you need are included. (I just checked).

I also have just replaced my screen....screen was damaged...LCD leaked and lots of vertical lines on a now only WHITE screen.
Camera works fine now.

Check to see if the camera is still working.
Try taking some pictures....and then put the SD-card into your computer to see if the pictures are being taken.

The matrix is dead. Probably because of an intensive light got into the lense while the camera was in night mode. It's dead. Nothing can be done.

Vertical lines and purple artifacts when the camera is aimed at bright subjects

Current LCD display technology can reproduce about 300 different levels of brightness. Brightly lit scenes or light sources may exceed this brightness range, causing a temporary disruption (artifacts) in the live display. Artifacts are part of the display, but they are not part of your recorded image. If you take a picture while you see artifacts on the screen and then display the picture on the LCD, you will no longer see the artifacts.
