Question about Samsung CLP 300 Laser Printer

Pickup Roller wear

It appears that many of the problems with this printer are related to the Pick-up Roller. My printer was producing paper feeding errors and I found that the roller on was worn smooth in two places. Removing the roller assembly and turning the rubber part (after cleaning) through about 90 degrees has produced a temporary solution.
So far I have found only one source for a replacement roller at about £13 which seems a bit high for a rubber band. Does anyone know if this item can be purchased cheaper?

I have had the same paper jam nightmare as many CLP-300 users and just as I was on the verge of throwing it away I appear to have solved the problem. The paper tray has adjustable plastic guides on either side. I loosened them slightly to allow an spare eighth of an inch each side and I've had no problems since. I can't believe the problem that plagued me for months was so easy to fix.

Try taking the pick up roller off its housing (turn the printer upside down, use two small flat bladed screwdrivers and prise the band housing away from its main body. It`s a tight squeeze but it will come off). Turn the band inside out (you will notice the difference because its nice and clean compared to the used side) and refit. Bob`s your uncle, new pickup roller, job`s a good one.

What are feed rollers and pads

Feed rollers are the rubber tires in your printer that pick up paper. They spin in the direction of the paper movement. They wear out over time due to use, and will need to be replaced. Pads are usually used for seperation and can be a flat peice or a round roller. They sit under the pickup roller and stop more than one piece of paper from being fed.

Epson Stylus CX4800 prints blank pages

Alex_Garton:

I'm not familiar with the Epson Stylus printers, but I'm going to hazard a guess. If the paper does not move at all, the paper pickup feed mechanism is at fault. One of two methods is used to pick up the sheet. Either the front lower portion of the tray is lifted up to force the top sheet into the feed roller, or the feed roller is connected to a drop-swivel to drop the feed roller onto the top sheet of paper. You'll need to look carefully at the feed mechanism to determine if a gear or clutch is failing. If the paper moves into the machine about 1/2 inch and then stops, either the first paper feed roller past the pickup roller may be at fault. Also check to see if the paper sensor between the paper pickup roller and the first feed roller is working properly.

My Dell 1110 laser jet printer begins to pick up a sheet of paper, but then stops just as the paper turns up with the roller. This will happen several times before the printer actually picks up the...

85% of paper jams are caused by worn rollers . The rubber treads in the rollers wears down, making them smooth, so they won't pick up the paper. Sometimes, they are aged, which also gives them a smoother rounded texture, causing jams. The quick fix is to liven up that roller with a mixture of alcohol and soap. Damp a rag with the solution and wipe the rollers clean with it. That's make them more pliable and the paper jams will cease. If you plan to keep your printer,

Replace the pick-up and feed rollers.

Metal Tab Separation- Pull out your paper tray and examine either end where the paper sits in. If any of the corners are held down by metal tabs, this is your paper feed system. Chances are, you only have one rubber roller or one set of rollers arranged along side of each other. Reach in where the tray goes and feel up. You should feel some rollers. They might be completely round, or they might be shaped like a half moon. Clean whichever part of them you can with the solution, and this should stop your paper jams. It might be necessary to turn them, but don't force them if they don't move freely.

Pickup Roller and Separation Pad-

If your printer uses this paper feed system, you should see a small piece of flat or slightly curved rubber or cork. It would be towards the end of the paper tray, or deep inside the paper loading cavity on top loaders. This 'separation pad' rubs against the paper feed roller, so if you find the pad, you've found the roller. Clean it and your jams should stop.

Three Roller Paper Separation System- Pull your paper tray out, and look for a roller on either end of it. If you find one, clean it. Then look inside the printer where that roller would rest with the paper tray inserted. You'll find another paper roller there. Clean this one also. Finally, look further back or closer to the front of your printer (depending on which way your paper feeds) to find another roller or set of rollers. Clean all of these, and your paper jams will go away.

Thanks, Joe

Jams in tray 2

Table 7-10 Causes of tray 2 jams

Cause Solution

The feed or separation rollers are dirty, worn, or damaged. Clean the rollers. If they are dirty after cleaning, or if they are

worn or damaged, replace the rollers.

The pickup roller is worn or damaged. Replace the pickup roller.

The tray 2 paper pickup assembly drive gears are damaged

or the assembly is defective.

Check the drive gears in the paper pickup drive assembly.

Replace the pickup drive assembly if the gears are

damaged. See Paper-pickup drive assembly.

The tray 2 pickup solenoid (SL101) is damaged. 1 Disconnect the connector for the tray pickup solenoid

from the dc controller PCA (location J92).

2 Measure the resistance between the cable connectors.

3 If the measured resistance is not approximately

160 ohms for the HP LaserJet 4200/4300, or 110 ohms

for the HP LaserJet 4250/4350, replace the tray 2

pickup solenoid.

The tray 2 lifter-drive assembly or the stack position

sensor (PS107) is defective.

Replace the lifter-drive assembly. See Tray 2 lifter-drive

assembly and/or Printer switches and sensors.

The dc controller PCA is defective. Replace the dc controller PCA. See Dc controller PCA.

Dirty, worn, or deformed pick-up roller, cassette separation

roller, and cassette feed roller.

Clean the rollers if they are dirty. Replace any worn or

deformed rollers. The cassette separation roller and the

cassette feed rollare are to be replaced together.

Damaged gears in the cassette pick-up drive unit. Move the gears in the cassette pick up drive unit. If the

gears are not rotating correctly, or are damaged or worn,
replace the cassette pick-up drive unit.

Double printing on pixma mp470

Double printing or double feed??. Double printing means document printed in 2 copies. Double feed means printer feed double paper in one moment. For double printing, please check number of copy of document in printing preference properties.
Double feed occurs when pickup roller fails to pick the paper correctly. It's usually caused by shaft of paper pick up roller which is broken. You should replace drive assembly (include pick up roller) in this case

My printer does not appear to be pulling paper through properly. The paper feeds, but the printing is starting imemdiately at the top of the sheet. Is this a spool problem adn can it be fixed?

Since your printer is more than 5 years old you can expect some wear on the pickup roller. A quick fix for your problem is to use alcohol and a toothbrush to scrub the gloss off of your primary pickup roller which is located in your paper feed drawer. These rollers tend to become glossy and smooth, which reduces your ability to feed paper into your printer.

My samsung printer is not picking up the sheets of paper correctly and they seem to be sticking on the roller

It could be a dirty pickup roller in printer. Found following advice from Samsung:

Printer will not feed the paper depends on following possibility.
  • Paper Type:
    • If surface of the paper is too smooth, pick-up roller will not feed the paper.
    • In such case, try with different type of paper.
  • Pick-up Roller:
    • If the rubber roller is worn out, it will not feed the paper from the tray. There is not enough friction to feed the paper.
    • Pull the paper tray out and clean the rubber roller.

Paper pickup problem

Can you be more specific about which canon copier you have. There are different feed rollers in different copiers. A short term fix is to clean the feed rollers. You will have to remove or remove the paper tray(s). depending on which copier you have. Some type of dry cloth (free of any residue/I use white dry shop towels) and a little rubbing alcohol will usually get you going again. You should be able to see the feed roller. Just clean it all the way around the roller. Use the alcohol sparingly, you don't want any liquid dripping inside of your copier.

The feed rollers also wear out. Once they get to smooth, they may no longer pick up the paper. If the rollers are removable, some just snap out, you can even lightly rough up the surface with a really fine emory cloth.

Feed rollers wear out and eventually reach a point where they must be replaced. The more card stock that you run through your copier, the fast they wear out.

Hope this helps. If you look inside and are confused what the feed roller is, then your best best is to call a copier repairman.

My DCP-560CN printer

Do you hear the paper feed motor at all?
If not, either the drive electronics or the motor has failed with the latter being the least likely.
If you do hear it, the pickup roller is probably gotten loaded with paper fiber (there is a difference between cheap papers) or has dried out on its surface. If it seems to be working, take a clean sheet of paper, make a fat line across it about two thirds down from the top with pure alcohol or methanol (don't use 'rubbing alcohol' diluted with water), feed the paper into the machine and stop the paper several times as it is pulled through to try to get the wetted strip stopped on the pickup roller to hoopefully clean it. To get the machine to feed, send it a blank page from any text editor. If it still won't pick up the paper, you will have to gain access to the innards and locate the first roller in the paper path and, if possible, remove it and using a coarse wood file, roughen the roller. Depending on the type of rubber, this can produce tiny 'fingers' of rubber sticking out which will grip the paper better. Pay attention though to turn the roller in the direction of normal operation to produce a surface with 'fingers' that will catch the paper.
Many printers develop that problem with use and it has been serious enough in some older HP models that they designed a special fixture and a small software program that did the same as I suggested with the file. This can be done several times without reducing the roller diameter too far.
