Mac wont turn on

I have a g5 tower. Just got it, and its wiped clean. When I try installing os 9 from the cd by putting the cd in, and pressing c....nothing happens. I can press the option button and it asks for a password that I don't have. If i press the apple button the face comes up but it keeps switching to a question mark. Any clue on how to get the install disk to actually work?
I'm a pc user and not too familiar with macs

G5 will not boot off of OS9. Since you are more of a pc guy, think of it like this, you buy a used newer pc meant to run Vista, and you are trying to load Windows 98 on there. You can run any of the OSX flavors on there...
Depending on your Model (scroll to bottom) of G5 you need to be running...
2003 -> at least 10.2 Jaguar 2004 -> at least 10.3 Panther 2005 -> at least 10.4 Tiger
10.5 Leopard is Apple's newest operating system and it can be run on any of these models. You need to buy a retail copy (has drivers for every model) unless you buy exactly the right system disk for that specific model.
OS9 can be installed and run inside of OSX using something called Classic mode. This would be like running a virtual XP Pro inside of Vista.

    My formatting above was jacked up...

    G5 Model 2003 -> at least 10.2 Jaguar

    G5 Model 2004 -> at least 10.3 Panther

    G5 Model 2005 -> at least 10.4 Tiger

    G5 Model ANY -> 10.5 Leopard

    What Allan says is true, but if you really want to run OS9, you can't go to 10.5. That OS doesn't support Classic. Stick with 10.4. On the other hand, if you don't need OS9, 10.5 gives you some more interesting features.

Mac g5 wont start led light blinks once every 7 sec

Hold down the power button until the computer shuts off. The press the button to restart and see what happens. There are several different ways to startup. immediately upon hearing the boot tone, press and hold the shift key to boot in safemode. If this fails as well, then you will need to boot with the install CD. This is done by immediately pressing holding the C key upon powerup

Leopard OS

Is the hard drive SATA or IDE. On IDE, I know you can use delpart. Locate a SATA tool to wipe the partition of SATA drives. Install LEOPARD as usual then after rebooting.

While trying to install OS10.5 and it will attempt to but it freezes, you the Apple booting circle it stops.

Probably the OS 10.5 version your're installing is not compatible or supported by the system motherboard of your computer model Apple Power Mac G5. per my research from Apple website herewith is their solution quote on what applicable OS to install for such model: "Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) and iMac G5 (iSight) models require Mac OS X 10.4.2 or later, you can t install Final Cut Pro 3.x or earlier versions on these computers. Final Cut Pro 3.x and earlier versions are not supported on any computer running Mac OS X 10.4". best regards

Mac G5 startup problem

Try an archive and install of the OS. This will save your settings and files but reinstall the OS. You can do this by booting to the cd and choosing archive and install instead of erase and install. If it happens again, it could be a slowly failing hard drive developing bad sectors, or the less likely of bad ram.
