Question about HP Pavilion dv7-1130us laptop

1 Answer

Laptop will not power up at all from mains or battery power.

Hi, I have a HP Pavillion dv7 laptop, 4 months old from new. It has worked perfectly since I purchased it. Lastnight, in tired mode, I went to insert my camera memory card into the laptop card reader port, but before I realised, it was too late and the card was too small and disappeared into the opening. I tried to retrieve it but it would not come out as it wedged itself.

I then removed the bottom access panet, (like a T shape), but could not get to the card still. so I went a little further, removed the hard drive, and around 8 screws hoping to remove the bottom cover completely to allow access. I soon realised the I was not going to work and did not proceed any farther, I replaced the Hard drive, screws and the access panel and lastly put the battery back, now the laptop refuses to power up at all. I have since managed to retrieve the card form the same way it went in.

There is no reason that I can see that has caused to machine to go into total shut down, I was very careful not to touch or disturb any components except as I say the hard drive. hope you can help.

Thank you for listening and your kind assistance on this matter.

Thanks for all the replies, its much appreciated for you taking the time to assist me.
I plugged in the mains and it powered the laptop, all seemed well, it stayed on for 5 mins then the screen went blank, all the neon lights remained lit. The power button would not shut down the laptop, so I unplugged, and on trying to restart it, it fired up for 5 seconds then turned itself off and kept repeating this each time, it did finally turn on and stay on but the screen remained blank, again just the neon lights on. I know this has now become a far more complex problem and difficult to diagnose blindly.

Do you have an A/C adapter? If you do, plug that in to guarantee you have power going to the Laptop in case there is something wrong with the battery. If it still doesn't power on, you may need to call HP and have it sent in for service (which would be good to call them now since you are within the 1 year warranty period. Out of warranty service with HP costs around $400)

If you do call HP, Do Not tell them you opened the case up, no matter how little you did while it was open. They may tell you by opening it up on your own without one of their phone technicians telling you to do so may void the warranty. Follow their troubleshooting steps and if it doesn't work after what they suggest you try, they will send you a Fed Ex Box with postage paid to send the Laptop into one of their service centres to get repaired or replaced.

Did you check if the battery is fit in properly ? It might have disconnected when you tried to remove the back cover of the laptop.

Laptop sometimes switches off when moved.

Sounds like a loose connection where the laptop opens and closes hinge there are wires that run from the main screen to the main board. If you know how to take the unit apart it maybe a cheap fix if not then a new laptop maybe the way to go the prices have really dropped from 4 years ago

Hp battery saying i may consider changing the battery

Insufficient info is provided here. How old is the battery, and how long does it last now. If it is old and runs down easily, then it needs changing. If it is less than 8 months and still runs down fast, then its having issues with ur main power supply. Purchace a new battery and ALWAYS USE IT WITH A SURGE PROTECTOR. Hope this helps?

My battery always stays charged, so why is my laptop telling me that i need to replace my battery?

Hi,the reason why your laptop is telling you to replace Battery is,you have killed your battery without knowing by Charging it always, since you have constant power supply, you should at least after getting a new Battery, discharge it four to five times a week longer life of battery,by these i mean, unplug cord from mains let power drain to 5% or 10% before charging again while working and if fully charged and you are not making use of it disconnect and if you want to make use of it use battery instead do not connect immediately to mains until power drains from battery.Just like your mobile phone, you only charge it when need be(ie. when Battery is Low).

HP pavillion dv1000 won't charge

Try using your laptop without the battery and just using your power supply (new universal or your old one).
If your laptop works on just mains power it means your battery is causing the problem, which is not unusual.
