Hi James,

You need to change the Waste ink tank to reset the counter. There is no other way to do it.

I would like to unlock my printer from the service required mode

Assuming you are referring to an R300 then you can use the keys on the printer itself to reset the waste ink counter and get out of the "service required" mode.

1. Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance' and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds, a message will come on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn off.

2. Turn your printer off and then back on - job done.

When resetting the counters you should really replace the waste ink pad or fit some form of external waste ink tank, like a Printer Potty, as the pads will eventually oversaturate and start leaking waste ink out of the printer or backing up ink into the printhead causing clogging.

How do I reset the sensor after a waste pad error message for an Epson 7000? The pad is not full and I need to reset so I can print.

Normally your remedy is to replace the "Waste Ink Pad/Pads" with a new one/ones and then reset the "Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter". The waste ink pads are normally housed in a black plastic box. They are located in the bottom of the printer, towards the front, just under where the paper starts to exit. You would have to remove the "Top Cover Assembly" to be able to get to the screw or screws that hold that assembly in place. If you cannot figure out how to remove the waste ink pad holder assembly [plastic box], you may need a service manual, for the removal procedure.

Also Replace the following parts and reset the counters as described below:
- Waste Ink Pads
- F Box
- Pump Assembly
- Cap Assembly
- Cleaner, Head
- From Maintenance Mode 2 enter the Counter Init. Menu and initialize the Waste Ink counter and Cleaning counter.

Also check the end article at this given link for the resolution of the problem:-

I use a Mac computer. I got a message that the computer requires service. Th Utility ink pad is saturated. When I contact Epson for the patch they only provide help with Window PC's. Is there anyway I...

The R300 can be reset using a key press combination:

1. Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance' and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds, a message will come on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn off.

2. Turn your printer off and then back on - job done.

That's the short term fix for the waste ink counter but obviously your printer still has a fair bit of waste ink building up so I'd definitely recommend fitting some form of external waste tank or getting the printer serviced so you don't risk flooding the printer in the long run.

Hope that helps.

Paper lights and ink lights flashing,/power light off, /mac os x tiger 10.4

Sound like the maintenance request (ie: waste ink pads are full).

This has been documented in detail so check the link below for more info' but the short version is this..

When the printer reaches a point in its internal logic that makes it think that the nappy pad is full or in danger of being full of waste ink it will indicate a "service required". At this point you can either take the printer to an Epson service center/tech and get it serviced for a considerable amount of money or you can reset the waste counter and fit an external waste tank/kit.

The latter approach is covered with these links below but there's plenty more on the subject if you need it so hope this lot helps.

Modifying the printer to use an external waste tank.

Reset ink-pad counter on epson stylus photo 1400

The simplest way to do this is to grab a copy of the A10_IPR utility that Epson distribute to their customers...

The utility is available to North American customers if you register no this site page

The utility is also know to be available in the wild if you search for "waste ink ipr".

Just remember to scan any download using a virus and malware scanner before you attempt to use it as some utilities contain trojans or similar nasties.

Hope that helps.

This is an indicator that the waste ink pads are getting full The answer is to reset the counters This will get it going again but, you can onlky do this a few times before it starts leaking. So 1. resetting the counter- download this utility- install it and right click on the taskbar icon. renewing the pads - messy business- you may want to install instead an improvised waste collection tank out side the machine Take a look at and search for Epson waste ink tank
