Acer Aspire one keeps freezing

My Acer Aspire One netbook keeps freezing right after it starts up. I can't click on anything! It's only three months old and I've hardly used it because of this reason. I've tried shutting it down and restarting. Sometimes it stops at the windows welcome screen. Sometimes I get to screen that shows my folders - but when I click on a folder, or an anything nothing happens. Then it just freezes altogether. What do I do to fix this?

I have an Aspire One, and it's about a week old. It will have only about 7% CPU usage, yet it just freezes. I'll have firefox open and I can't type, change tabs, open any programs, minimize anything... nothing. There won't be an hourglass either. The first thing I did after the first boot-up was go online, download firefox and install NoScript and FlashBlock. Then I installed Zone Alarm and Avira anti-virus. I'm 99.9% sure that I don't have any viruses or malware. Process Exploorer isn't helping me identify any problems, because it's not a process related issue.

I have the same problem and im using it for only one month. Ive reinstalled the windows but it didnt help. It has to be something with the hard drive i think. Im taking it back while its under warranty.

I've never heard of HDD regenerator? and how will it effect the rest of my files? Should I backup my files on a thumb or external drive before doing this?

I don't have any solution but I'm here just to let you know I have the same problem with my ACER and this is a pity cuz I've been using it for almost one year without any problem. One month ago it started freezing and it happens only when I'm using the scrolling bar. Now I learnt I should use the buttons page up, page down respectively and that stopped happening. However I don't like this solution since anybody who doesn't know the scrolling bar cannot be use, can freeze my laptop in one second so I have then to restart it. I still have two weeks of warranty and I'll try to see if it is possible to swap it but bet the store I bought it will not accept my request. I'm not happy at all.

Per ACER support tech: 1) Shut down your computer completely. 2) Unplug from the power source 3) Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds 4) Release and plug back in 5) Start up as usual. Can be done whenever there are issues as it will not hurt your computer. Releases the static electricity within the computer. Good luck. Mine's working like a charm and this problem got worse and more frequent for me.

It will be better if you ask your vendor for help as it is under warranty.

Set the bios password and forgotten whaat it is

You need to preform a Acer Aspire One BIOS Recovery

instructions here: http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer-aspire-one-bios-recovery.html

Summary:
You need a flash drive formatted as fat (Right click on drive. Click format. Select fat for file system. Press start)
Down load the bios 3310 from here: http://macles.blogspot.com/p/acer-aspire-one-bios.html
Extract all files. Put both FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file with FD suffix in the root directory of the flash drive. The files must not be in a folder. Rename the BIOS file to ZG5IA32.FD before proceeding. It only works with this exact filename.

Make sure laptop is off and has battery and power plugged in.

Plug in flash drive to netbook. Press Fn and Esc simultaneously, keep them pressed and press the power button. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds. The power button starts blinking at this point. Press it once. The netbook will now access the files on the flash drive and initiate flashing the BIOS. After a while the power button stops blinking, and the netbook reboots by itself. Wait patiently.

If it doesn't reboot, but keeps blinking, wait at least a few minutes before turning it off, and try again.

My Acer aspire one net book keeps freezing when I work with heavy files. does it has to do with memory ? how do I fix this ? Acer Service Center is unable to help !

That's bad... I recently heard that the Acer netbook that has Linux installed has problems if you install Windows. If you have the model with 512 megabytes of RAM, then that's normal. You can do nothing to increase the RAM on a netbook... Good luck :)

Black screen of death on AOD150 help. can't get bios3310 to load. followed everyone else's directions , but just won't load

Hopefully this will work for you...

Here’s what you need:
  1. USB Memory stick (as low as 128mb)
  2. Another PC with a net connection
  3. WinZip, WinRAR, or some other program that can extract zip files.
  4. A quick visit towww.acer.com
  5. Your Acer Aspire One, that will power up/turn on, but the screen does not come on.
And here’s what you do:
  1. Go to www.acer.com and go through the DRIVER support pages until you get the Aspire One driver page for your relevant Aspire One model (110/150/751)
  2. Click on the tab on the download area that reads ‘BIO’ even if it looks like you can’t click on it (their site design grays it out but it’s there) and download the BIOS file numbered 3310 (it might have changed version recently but do it) and don’t worry, you can trust this file, as it’s from Acer directly.
  3. Extract the zip once downloaded and find in the DOS folder the files ‘flashit.exe’ and 3310.fd
  4. When you’s ve found them, rename 3310.fd to ZG5IA32.fd and put this renamed file and ‘flashit.exe’ onto the USB memory stick
  5. Put the USB in the Aspire One and hold the keys ‘FN’ (function) and ‘Esc’ (escape) and keep them held when you turn the laptop on
  6. Watch the power button and when it starts flashing, press it once (DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE)
  7. You should notice the USB (if it has a light) blinking as well… The netbook has started ‘flashing’ the BIOS and after about 7 minutes, the netbook should shutdown and reboot itself and VOILA! The screen should turn on just fine.
It took my three times but this IS the proper solution! I am now very happy with my Aspire One that still works!
