You don't need to use Canon software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

If you REALLY want to use the Canon software, please specify the version of the operating system with which you'd like to use it.

You can download the software from Canon here.

I would suggest though, that you use a card reader instead of connecting the camera directly to the computer. It's faster and easier and doesn't require any extra software.

You can download Canon software from

You might want to consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

Unable to download pictures thru Camera Window DC utility.

Skip the use of your software for downloading the camera files.
Buy and use a card reader.
You can download files from the card reader, and use an editor to fix your pictures the way you want.
Save a bunch of time and effort!

If you got the Cable and Software CD, you can try to Uninstall the Software and then Install it again, as it may be some software/Dirver fault.

Try using a different USB cable. The connections between cameras and computers usually are problematic. A card reader will allow you to download the pictures from the SD card, without problems and saving your camera's battery power supply

I am borrowing the schools Cannon HV-20 HD Video Camcorder to copy my son's soccer games and the camera is not being recognized by my computer. I have it connected via a USB cable.

You may have to go to Cannon's web site and download the software for that video camera to your computer. Some computers will not automatically see all devises on it's own without the specific software for it. I know before I switched to using Macs I usually always had to download the software. Even w/ the macs you sometimes have to do so. At least Cannon's web site should offer some tips and solutions for using that product.
