Often when this happens, the drive was removed without "Safely Remove Hardware" . Try different computers (Operating Systems) and when recognized, Use the "Safely Remove Hardware" key. Then try it on your laptop.

Which operating system ?

It's always a good practice to safely remove your USB flash drive before unplugging it from your computer.
This prevents data loss and extends the life of your external storage device.
Removing a flash drive from your computer is very easy and doesn't take a long time to do.

Close all files you accessed from the flash drive.
This is necessary for the device to be removed properly.
Don't forget to save your files before closing the files.
Right-click the "USB" icon marked with a checkmark.
It is located on the bottom right of your taskbar.
From the pop-up menu, click "Safely Remove Hardware."
A small window will be displayed.
Select the USB flash drive you want to unplug then click the "Stop" button.
A confirmation window will appear. Click the appropriate hardware device, then click "OK."
The "Safe to Remove Hardware" window will inform you that it's now safe to unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.
Click "OK," then click "Close."
or
Click start all programs accessories windows explorer navigate to your usb drive right click on it select remove or exit.

My safe to remove icon has dissappeared how can re install it please

Which operating system ?????????

The system tray in Windows XP is the right side of the small blue bar at the bottom of the screen that houses the clock and a few other small icons. You can add icons to the system tray for ease of access, including the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon, which allows you to easily remove hardware from your computer.

Turn on the Windows XP computer and right-click the taskbar. Select "Properties" from the menu that appears. Check "Hide Inactive Icons", then select "Customize" A new window appears with all of the icons currently on the system tray, along with icons also for some programs that don't appear on the tray. Click next to the icon "Safely Remove Hardware," then check the box "Always Show". Click "Apply". Safely Remove Hardware Icon?

Are you using the Safely Remove Hardware option? There should be a little icon in the tray that allows you to remove the drive safely. Alternatively, you can right click on the drive letter in My Computer and click Eject and/or Safely Remove to make sure Windows really does write your files to the disk. If that doesn't help, try reformatting the drive; if it still won't work, you probably have a defective drive, and you should try and return/replace your device.

PEN DRIVE IS NOT RECOGNISED BY DRIVER.

Hi,
Normally you don't need a special driver for usual pen drives. Are you properly removing it via the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray (in right corner, near the clock on the taskbar)? If you don't use the Safely remove Hardware command, then you pen drive can be damaged. Try it in other ports or check it for proper function by connecting it to another PC.

If this is the solution for your problem, please rate my post, otherwise give us more details.

Regards,
Andras

Pen drive not showing in my explorer.

Its a common problem with the pendrive, in windows. some time it doesnot detect or not showing clearly that device. you have to check your pendrive manufacturer and driver details. and also check it out driver signing.

Do you have mapped network drives on your computer? If you have this may cause your problem. When you insert the PEN Drive into USB and the "safely remove hardware" icon appers try to right-click on it and choose "eject" or "remove" (don't remember :), then pull the PEN DRIVE from the USB and connect it again. Go to Windows Explorer and try to open all your mapped drives, then the content of your PEN DRIVE must be loaded into your Windows Explorer. This is happened sometimes, because PEN DRIVE try to assign the first free drive letter after your phisical drive letters, and if you have a mapped drive letter, the PEN DRIVE assign one of them.
