Hi, you haven't said what operating system you are using, which I need to know to help you. But you could try the Realtrek AC'97 sound driver, its free to download, just do a google search.
You need to download the audio drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: - www.hp.com/#Support
I had the same problem.....and at first even i had reinstalled the realtek driver n it dint work..!!......................Try reinstalling your operating system n it should WORK....!!!!!!!!
