Printer acts like it's working then produces a blank page

My printer abruptly quit working several months ago in the middle of a print job. now whenever i try to print or scan something, the printer acts completely normal but produces a blank page each time. i uninstalled and then reinstalled the software but no change. any help??? do i just need to take it to the dell store?

yep, good cartridges with half-full ink at least. and it prints blank whenever i print a test page.

  • Lauren Langley Aug 01, 2007

yes, i tried cleaning both cartridges several times. however, my brother hooked the printer to his computer recently and was able to print. so i'm not sure what the problem could be with my computer. i have a dell inspiron notebook.

okay, first i tried a different usb port with no luck. when i pull up the driver and try to remove it, it says cannot remove driver, printer is in use although the printer is not connected. how do i get rid of this message? i really really appreciate your help!!

I had the same problem with my cartridge. I soaked it in hot water for a minute or two three times. It started to print but then soon became blank again. I then soaked it for 5- 10 minutes again in hot water, dabbed it dry on paper towel and it works likes a charm!

Try to print first a self test page on the printer. Does it print a blank page also ? Do you have good or new ink cartridges in the printer ? Let me know.

I guess you already tried the cartridge cleaning routine. If this procedure does not fix the printing problem, I am afraid to say it's time to take it to the Dell store or replace the printer.

Try removing the printer software and install it again. This time, remove the drivers by going to the printers folder, click on File, select Server Properties, go to the Drivers tab, find the driver for the A920 printer and remove it.
    Then install it again.
Try also a different USB port if you have it available on your laptop.

Maybe you have print jobs pending. Try restarting the print spooler.
To do this, right click on My Computer, select Manage, expand Services and Applications, click on Services and down the list find Print Spooler. Right click on it an select Restart.
After this, try removing your printer software.

WHEN I GO TO PRINT TO MY HP J4550 THE JOBS GOES TO PRINT BUT IT ALSO SENDS MANY JOBS TITLED SERIAL NUMBER JOBS. THE PRINTER WILL SLOWLY WORK THROUGH THESE(WITH OUT PRINT ANYTHING) IT WILL EVENTUALLY GET TO...

Go into your control pannel and open up "Printers". Right click on the printer you are using and select "Properties". In the box that comes up choose "advanced"
In the middle of the menu box there should be "Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster" below it is "Print directly to the printer"
Change the option to Print directly and then press Apply at the bottom, this will get rid of the "Serial Job Number" that comes up before printing. :o)

Printing problem

You will need to clean cartridges and printer head with cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. Some printers have a self-cleaning diagnostic setting on them.
After thourough cleaning, print test page and use alignment if necessary.

My HP printer spits out a blank page before printing document

I had same problem with hp psc 2410 all-in-one. Finally ran "HP all-in-one Series Web Release Uninstaller version: 4.1.1.00.1332 (3/20/2007) that I had downloaded several years ago. Then plug and play took over and installed the correct driver that Vista kept insisting I already had.

My HP color laserjet 4500 is printing only blank pages

This is usually the Transfer kit, but if the image drum or one of the power supplies goes bad, that can also give blank pages. The Drum problem for no print is usually a grounding/connection problem. Power Supplies are a complicated repair, but these printers aren't too bad to work on. You can buy good used one's fairly cheap on ebay, though. Should consider going to a later model CLJ if you replace with a used, though.

HP IIIp prints extra blank pages

HI there make sure that the paper tray guides are fully against the paper also try sending the job through the manual feed to see if you get the same problem. If you do not then it maybe that the paper cassette separation pad is worn and will need replacing. If your model has no rubber pad at the front of the cassette then you will have a metal hold over one corner of the paper make sure that when the paper lifts that the paper sits under the silver (Dog Ear) as this acts as a separator.

Hope this helps
Thanks J
