I was able to get one of these working that had a dead pen. I reset the
pen (insert a pin in the side), and plugged it into a USB port on my
computer. I then opened the smartglobe 3 software and it updated the
pen. A couple times it failed to format the pen.
I had to switch the pen to another usb port and then it finally
formatted and downloaded all of the info to it. It took a looooong time
to update. Then it said it was updating the Clock. It then told me to
disconnect the pen, but... I was wary of this because most usb devices
require some kind of dismounting before you unplug something.
So instead of disconnecting the pen when it said to, I quit the
smartglobe software and shut down the computer, without ever unplugging
the pen. Once the computer was off I finally unplugged the pen from the
usb cable. I turned off the pen and turned it back on. It then worked,
(a guy came on and said something)! I think maybe there isn't a way to
"eject" the pen properly, so shutting down might (big emphasis on might)
allow the usb connection to disconnect successfully without corrupting
the flash memory of the pen. Or I just got really lucky. Either way I'm
happy! (And not about to update it again I might add).
Hi, I just ordered 2 pens - the price was $5 per pen including S+H. I was told that the globe that we have ( smart globe, purchased in 2003 or so ) is a discontinued model so I just ordered an extra one just in case. The pens should arrive within 10-15 business days according to the costumer rep. Good luck!
I have problems updating my SmartGlobe. Download the latest version of our software here, http://smartglobe.oregonscientific.com/updates/deluxe.html. Make sure you uninstall the current software before install this new one.
When you initially install the software, you are given a choice of language and age group. I would recommend trying to reinstall the software (which can be downloaded as well) and then make sure your preferred language is chosen.
