It seems that your Windows is corrupted, try reinstalling or repairing your computer by putting your windows installer or recovery disc in the drive and then restart your computer. . windows installations should commence.. you might also have to set cdrom as your first boot device.

I wanted to factory reset the same computer dell inspiron 1721 but it won`t take the command

To restore a Dell Inspiron computer with a Windows 7 or Windows Vista operating system to factory settings, users simply need to press the F8 key when the Delllogo appears. Then, they should select the "Repair your Computer" option from the advanced boot menu, which may require a password.

Daughter deleted some of the programs on the computer, how would i just set the computer back to start/just purchased settings so that i can lock everything so that she does not do this again? Thanks in...

when you bought your computer you must have got a back up cd with it to reinstall everything as it was.. I mean factory installed/default.. If you did not got this cd try this:

Using Windows 7 or Vista System Restore

Windows 7 and Vista has a feature called System Restore that automatically backs up registry and system files whenever you install new software or drivers. This feature is useful when you install evil software that makes your computer run really slow. But don't worry, System Restore won't remove Windows Vista/7.

Using System Restore in Windows

There are two places that you can use the system restore feature from. From within Windows, you can just type restore into the Start menu search box, and you'll immediately see System Restore at the top of the start menu:

Or you can type rstrui into the search box and hit enter. Your choice.

You will immediate see a screen where you can choose to roll back the system to the last restore point. You can select "Recommended restore", and just click next, or you can choose a different restore point.

If you do choose a different restore point, you will see a list of restore points that you can choose from. How many times have I typed the word choose at this point?

Click one of them, and you will have to confirm and then restart your computer to roll the system back.

If you receive an error while restoring, then use it from safe mode and it should work fine. To get into Safe mode, you can reboot and use the F8/F2 key right before Windows starts up.

If Your System Won't Boot

If you can't even get into windows, you can boot off the installation dvd, and choose the "Repair your computer" option on the lower left hand side. If you don't have an installation/repair disc, you can make one with these instructions.

Click next on the next screen, and then choose System Restore from the System Recovery dialog. It will take a few seconds to come up, and you will see the same screen that you would see in Windows:

Click next, and on the next screen select the drive that your copy of Windows 7 or Vista is installed on.

Click Finish, and Windows will roll back to the previous restore point. Really pretty simple stuff.

hope this helps you out, if it helped you out please like/rate the answer please, it will really help

Start up . Black screen.

What OS? Have you tried F8 at boot to enter safe mode? Can you actually boot windows ok?
Here is a link to HP support options.
I would begin by running chkdsk c: /r from the recovery console (or from windows if you can get it to run.) (instructions here & here)
Then use MBAM to scan for malware.(guide here.) and remove anything it finds.
If no joy, run sfc /scannow and see if that helps. (instructions here)
If that doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling your Internet Explorer. See here for info about the shdocvw.dll file.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Shdocvw.dll

Does this error appear on startup? Or While launching a particular program.

Try going to Add/Rremove programs under control panel.
On the left pane - click on Add/remove windows components.

Try removing any unused/unwanted utility form that list.
Restart the computer, and check if you still get the error.

I need to reset my computer. erase everything and start all over from the beginning but i don't know how to do it. My speakers don't work, and i can't get the wireless internet to work. How do i reset it?...

On a Compaq or HP unit, you can hit F10 as it boots. It will go to a menu that gives you the option to do a Full recovery.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
