Question about Sony KP-53S65 53" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Tv wont turn on.. :-<

The power light comes on the front of the tv like it's trying to turn on but no luck. I took the back panel off and noticed a part of the circuit board was glowing red and had a small amount of smoke. So I guess my question is, is there a typical part or circuit that commenly goes out on this model Tv ( Sony KP-53S65 )? If this helps to solve the problem, the TV NEVER gets turned off. Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.

It is the capacitor. Look in other forum for part number. I had exact same problem. Was a $2.00 part.

Green light blinking, tv won't turn on

Lamp lifetime is not 100% predictable. A lamp may fail without notice, although this is not usually the case. The picture is more likely to become noticeably dimmer as the lamp nears the end of its lifetime.

While there is nothing wrong with using a lamp until it fails, some customers may want to purchase a new lamp and replace the existing one when they notice that it is aging.

If the lamp fails in a Mitsubishi MicroDisplay TV, there will be no picture on the screen and a red front panel LED indicator will illuminate.

Power went out and when it come back on the tv took a long time to start and the screen was verticle stripes (multi-color)

Check if the issue is with the TV by connecting any other device.
If the issue is with the TV, then try resetting the TV to the factory settings by performing the below steps:
To reset the TV, turn ON the TV, then while holding down the UP ARROW button on the Remote Control, press the Power button on the TV front panel.
The TV will turn OFF and then turn ON again. Then release the UP ARROW button to complete the reset procedure.

If the issue still persists, try Power resetting the TV.
To Reset the TV, please disconnect the power cord for a short period of time (approximately 1 minute). Then, reconnect the power cord and power on the TV.
If the issue still persists, service is required for the TV.

The timer light keeps flashing but the tv wont come on

ONLY 1 of 2 things can cause this problem----

First thing to do is remove front speaker grill--it should pull out and is secured with plastic pegs--behind it you will find an inspection plate---

Notice the one or two pairs of wires coming from the front keyboard2.gif of the set---remove the inspection plate and follow the wires to the right--you can unplug both plugs(most have two and they are marked with letters and different sizes so you cannot get them wrong)

The idea here is to remove the front keyboard2.gif with its reset button etc from the circuit---You will still be able to try to turn the set on with the remote---

These sets have a Receiver that is called a DM board--(large metal box to the left as you look from the back) and if the power goes out the green light will blink for about 70 seconds and then go out---it is the Receiver booting up. It is called the DM board.

If disconnecting the keyboard allows the set to turn on--you have a bad reset switch and two choices---either operate the set only with the remote or to remove the front screen and get at the reset switch (it is tiny) and remove and/or replace it.

If disconnecting the keyboard does not restore the set to operation---the receiver is bad---there are 4 or more caps and some pico fuses that can fail in that unit---Mitsubishi no longer sells or repairs these--if it is bad and not the caps there is a company you can send the unit to and have it repaired--if you need to know their name let me know---

You can call them and get a quote for repairing the receiver. There are also sites on the internet selling a kit for this repair.

Solution is simple....

First, unplug power cable from the back of your TV. You will notice the flashing light is still flashing. Don't worry, go to the Second step.

Second, keep pressing on the POWER button, located on the panel at the top of your TV, to shut off your TV. This will stop the flashing light from appearing.

Third, Plug the power cable back onto your TV

Fourth, press the POWER botton ONCE, using the same button used in the Second step to turn your TV back on.

Fifth, you will see the POWER light comes on, as normal.

Sixth, using your remote control, press the green button to turn on. Your TV should work as normal.

Had the same problem with the Mitsubishi ws 48511 model. A solution posted in FixYa worked great and might be worth trying as they have very similar electronics and panels -- did you check to make sure that one of the front panel buttons isn't stuck in the depressed postition? For me, the device menu kept cycling and remote wouldn't work. Sure enough, the button was stuck pushed in. It was hard to even notice, but took little effort to get it free. Good luck.
