Need to remove the screen from my emachines 5405 laptop

The screen on my laptop (emachines M5405) is broken (went dead),,, Best Buy Geeks told me it would cost $1,100 to replace the screen! I simply connected the laptop to an external monitor and I'm back in business (albeit it's now a desktop). I want to remove the laptop screen completely so that the laptop can fit comfortably in front on the external monitor. Can it be reomoved? And if so, how?
Thank you,

Thank you for your swift response... I removed the screws but the screen doesn't budge at all. Does it have to be forced off or should it sort of slide off?

The laptop screen is secured to the laptop with screws at the hinges.
There are usually two screws per hinge. The LCD screen has one ribbon cable and possibly a power connector for the back lighting attached to the motherboard near the hinges. Disconnect these, they are under the plastic panel next to the hinges.

I have removed and replaced screens on various laptops and have found they slide off - if you position the screen in a vertical position you should be able to lift it off in a vertical position it may be a bit tight.

You need to disconnect the LCD cables from the motherboard first before you can remove the screen.

You will have to disassemble your laptop to get to the CMOS battery. Check out this guide for doing so:

You will have to remove the LCD Screen to get to two more small screws under the hinge attachments. Then two more screws to release the cover plate that the Touch Pad is mounted to (the entire remaining half of the main cover). Lift it up gently and the CMOS battery is located to the right of the Touch Pad position.

Lcd screen cracked, are they interchangeable

hello, to start of, NO, not all 15.6 inch LCDs are same. They all vary from different brands and models of the laptops.
Here is what i would recommend, go to and look for a used or new screen, if you are not comfortable installing it your self ask a repair shop for installation price.
just cor comaprision you can ask for manufaturer's price to replace it but I am positive if you didn't purchase extra "Screen protection" it will probably be not worth price you will get from "eMachine".
Here is Link from eBay someone selling screen for your laptop:

Do your research before you buy it, see it is the route you would like to take.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
