I'm trying to check this laptop to see if the screen was fixed properly but without a hard drive I was wondering if there will show any signs of it getting power.

Without a harddrive it'll still boot the bios and will probably give you an error about the missing harddrive. You'll see text on the screen so you'll at least know if the screen is working.

My son broke the screen on his laptop two years ago and I finally replaced the screen. Now he cannot remember the hard drive password for the computer. I am wondering if there is a way to reset this...

Reset the bios by disconnecting the biosbattery (leave it out for 5 mins), this will clear the installed passwords from the bios. Is inside your laptop on the motherboard, probably in a hard to reach place, but that is the most simple way to do it.

E 68 error....will transfer cable help fix it?

The E68 is a weird error. Its normally from a hard drive failure. The underground xbox 360 scene says

THe E68 is a Hard Drive Error. The Hard drive is not properly configured: It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it.

If the xbox can play without the hard drive then this error can be caused by a problem with the fans that make them draw too much power, it can also be caused if you have unnecessary accessories attached to the console like an external fan unit. Attempt to remove unnecessary accessories first, and then necessary components such as the hard drive and USB devices.

If its the hard drive or your console causing the problems contact Microsoft they will probably fix your hard drive and maybe recover your game saves. On the newest games that info is stored on xbox live.

Powers up then shuts down after a couple of seconds.

Apparently you damaged an internal component.
Your BIOS program performs a POST (Power On Self Test) on each of your computer's devices before it will allow the operating system to boot up. The POST protects your computer from damage to more devices if it runs into a fatal error with one.

I suspect that your hard drive may have been damaged. Hard drive is not the first thing checked, which would account for the few seconds that the POST runs. And, hard drives are easily damaged.

SInce your POST shut down your computer so early, it's hard to tell what else might have been damaged, but I would think it would be worth replacing the hard drive and trying to boot the computer up again.

Good luck with it!!

No power

Sounds like a motherboard issue, BUT first try fixing it with a few basics like:

reseating / swapping the memory

removing the hard drive and then powering up the machine.

Try those two first and then report back.

Wont turn on

Hello, It looks like a dead hard drive... To check your hard drive and see if you can repair it yourself, reboot your computer press simultaneously the "cmd" and "s" keys at startup if you see a black screen with white text, type: fsck -f and hit enter this does a "file system check", when finnished, type "reboot" and press enter. If nothing better happens, you'll certainly have to brinng it to an Apple Authorized Center Best regards

Probably bad memory or loose CPU module. First try removing and resetting CPU. You'll need to remove Keyboard, Palmrest, and heatsink and shield beneath Keyboard. You'll need a small Phillips screwdriver to remove screws and small standard size screwdriver to loosen screw holding CPU. After removal/reset, put everything back together and try powering back on. If still same problem, replace memory located on bottom of LT located behind door. Also, you may have a memory module located under Keyboard next to CPU that may be bad.

White screen

dorub,

you do not get any sounds right?  If no, you need a  new hard drive.  There is no magic fix for a white screen.  Either your hard drive is corrupted..  if no sound it's your hard drive.  If there's is sound it could be your lcd connector.   As a matter of fact it could be your hard drive cable.  At your own risk feel free to open up the mysterious unit and make sure the big metal rectangular prism in there is properly connected.
