Without a harddrive it'll still boot the bios and will probably give you an error about the missing harddrive. You'll see text on the screen so you'll at least know if the screen is working.

My son owns a Dell Latitude D610 was wondering what a DST error is a can it be an easy fix?

it may be a hard drive error reporting feature available on SOME (not all) hard drives, via hard drive firmware.

Check your BIOS Setup and see if it is enabled : the HD may have a feature you will be able to correct this by enabling it.

have you tried (bottom right corner of screen) Dell icon support " get in contact with www.dell.com and give them the service tag #.

Laptop issue

You've not posed a question, this looks like a cut and paste of the typical report from a blue screen crash.

Just follow the instructions :-

1) IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU'VE SEEN THIS ERROR SCREEN RESTART YOUR COMPUTER.

2) IF THIS SCREEN APPEARS AGAIN FOLLOW THESE STEPS: CHECK FOR VIRUSES ON YOUR COMPUTER.

3) REMOVE ANY NEWLY INSTALLED HARD DRIVES OR HARD DRIVE CONTROLLERS.

4) CHECK YOUR HARD DRIVE TO MAKES SURE IT IS PROPERLY CONFIGURED AND TERMINATED.

5) RUN CHKDISK /F TO CHECK FOR HARDDRIVE CORRUPTION, AND THEN RESTART YOUR COMPUTER.

It's possible that it's a hardware problem, Since this is a laptop it may be hard for you to reseat some of the internal devices inside in your laptop so we could start isolating the issue from the hardware and to the software.

First try to power cycle it, turn off your laptop remove the battery, any external connection like external mouse, external hard drive and monitor and press the power button for 15 seconds after that put the battery in and turn it back on without the external devices plugged in. (if it turned on without a problem that's good-possible that one of the external devices are causing it to keep on restarting, to isolate it you can just put the external devices one-by-one and start the computer, if it start occuring you know who is causing the problem)

If you can disassemble your laptop you can try to remove the hard drive, then turn on your computer, if your computer didn't restart that means that the problem is with you hard drive, possible that the software installed in it is faulty or the hard drive itself (try plugging it back in properly let's see if it'll work, if not, you may need to buy a new hard drive or before buying one, you can try to plug your hard drive to a different computer (acting like an external hard drive) and backup all your important files and reformat that hard drive, after reformatting it you can try to plug it to your laptop again. (if that hard drive is not detected to another computer meaning that it's faulty)

If that didn't resolve the problem, you can try to reseat the memory testing each memory chip and slots, processor.

Powers up then shuts down after a couple of seconds.

Apparently you damaged an internal component.
Your BIOS program performs a POST (Power On Self Test) on each of your computer's devices before it will allow the operating system to boot up. The POST protects your computer from damage to more devices if it runs into a fatal error with one.

I suspect that your hard drive may have been damaged. Hard drive is not the first thing checked, which would account for the few seconds that the POST runs. And, hard drives are easily damaged.

SInce your POST shut down your computer so early, it's hard to tell what else might have been damaged, but I would think it would be worth replacing the hard drive and trying to boot the computer up again.

Good luck with it!!

Power on, black screen, nothing...Acer Aspire One Reconditioned

Well I doubt your hard drive is bad and that is what stores the information. So you wont lose everything. I suggest pulling out the memory and reinstalling it. Then try to pull out the CMOS battery overnight. Most likely is not a hard drive failure but it could also be the inverter for your screen. Either way you will be able to pull out the hard drive and have the laptop fixed without losing your DATA.

No power

Sounds like a motherboard issue, BUT first try fixing it with a few basics like:

reseating / swapping the memory

removing the hard drive and then powering up the machine.

Try those two first and then report back.

Probably bad memory or loose CPU module. First try removing and resetting CPU. You'll need to remove Keyboard, Palmrest, and heatsink and shield beneath Keyboard. You'll need a small Phillips screwdriver to remove screws and small standard size screwdriver to loosen screw holding CPU. After removal/reset, put everything back together and try powering back on. If still same problem, replace memory located on bottom of LT located behind door. Also, you may have a memory module located under Keyboard next to CPU that may be bad.
