This is the exact same problem I am having, too: The Creative Zen Vision:M will not turn on. I plug it up to my PC's USB port, and all I get is a flashing blue light. The screen is blank/black, and it does not respond to anything. I can't tell if it is charged, needs to be charged or if it is broken. I left it plugged in for 24 hours just to make sure it was charged, but after 24 hours, it's still doing the same thing. Also, my PC doesn't recogize it, that it is plugged in. The player isn't registering as connected as a device in My Computer/Explorer. Any ideas? Thanks

i have the exact same problem as well.
i've not been using it for the past 2 months, but it turned on this morning though my computer wont detect it. now, it wont even turn on, and the battery was full!

I have the exact same thing. I was recommended to use the reset option but that does nothing. I have it plugged in now but again, black screen, blue light is flashing. I've only had mine for about 2 months now. Seems like quite a common problem given the number of people here with it.

    same as previous

my zen won't turn on or turn off. only blue light :(

  • Anonymous Mar 24, 2009

I couldnt find the charger for two weeks but i just found it and plugged it in and now mine wont turn on only flashes blue. Ive had mine for almost a year and never had a problem with it......:(

  • bojamo Mar 29, 2009

Same here although the screen does light up and show docking symbol when plugged into lappie. Shows charging symbol top left of screen but even after charging for over 24hrs the blasted thing still shows the charge level to be in the red - and only plays for about 3 minutes until it shuts down.

I suspect a battery issue and unless I get some other feedback I am gonna buy a new one on eBay and fit it.

    Any other ideas people?!

Well you can try this if you still got the zen, press the reste button, dont hold just press it then hold down the power button and it will start up but mine just kept on going black fter a while so i had to put it into recovery mode by doing the following.
Hold down play untill the end
Press the reset button
Hold down the power button
Makes sure you releas the play button last
after that do Reload Firmware i think
then it will delete the firmware make sure you have this downloaded on your computer
http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=10889
its the newest firmware
when you downloaded this plug in your zen into the computer and it should turn on your zen and then say Firmware problem and if it doesnt just put it into recovery mode then plug it in.
Then make sure all application are turned off like Mozzila or the Internet Explorer, then just double click on the firmware and it should fix

Yes, probably a combination of a nasty bug and the battery running out.
When it doesnt turn back on, doesnt connect to PC and reset hole doesnt work either, plug into AC charger. Sometimes this is the only way you can bring it back to life - it should enter recovery mode automatically with the AC charger - once it does, select reboot and see what happens.

The same thing happened to me, and I found the problem by accident: it means that your zen is out of battery. I left mine attached to my laptop, left and came back 30 minutes later to find it turned on, charging, and "docked." You just need to hook it up, and wait. If it doesn't work, then try resetting it.

That happened to me the second day I used my zen. I just let the battery run out (until the blue light was turned off) and then plugged it into my pc. One night later it was ok again. Sadly this has happened again today (I bought it the 2nd). This seems like a recurrent problem when I plugged it into my pc.

SOURCE: ZEN NOT CHARGING

here, this is what I did to fix this problem. copy and paste from my original post on anythingbutipod.com

"My player is completely charged, I have XP w/SP2 - I can turn it on and listen to the default audio tracks and videos...I just can't get my computer to recognize it AT ALL!"

and then:

also, when I try to allow "everyone" to the USB....I found that in the advanced section I have TWO "everyones".

The one that says "full control" says "not inherited" in the inherited from column...the other says "read" and "machine\system\currentcontrolset......."

Should there be two of them in there??? Because when I try and switch the read to full control, it reverts back as soon as I select apply or ok....I tried deleting it but it re-creates itself soon as I go out of the window.

so I was told to do this:

Sounds like an NT problem. I don't know the exact steps to do this, but you'll need to remove inheritable permissions from that, which will remove the "inherited" attribute, leaving the locally-controllable one.

So open "run" command in the start menu and type "regedit"

From there follow this path...

"hkey_current_config" -> system -> current control set -> Enum -> USB

Do what I copy and pasted above and then plug your Zen V:M in and it should recognize it.

Mine does the same thing, You just have to leave it plugged in for a long time, and after a while the black screen with the battery that tells you it's charging will show up.
Trust me, it'll happen.

Creative zen won't turn on

had same prob to the T...found this post and it fixed it...it's the computer not the zen...once I did the two steps my zen started charging and turned on...go figure...the flashing blue light doesn't mean it is charging.

If you have windows set to do automatic updates, you most likely had a windows update installed that caused this conflict with Win Media Player 11. No fix has been posted by Microsoft yet, so the only workaround is to Uninstall/Rollback Windows Media Player 11. Goto <Control Panel<Add/Remove Programs and remove Windows Media Player 11. Follow prompts, restart computer when prompted to. Also uninstall Windows Media Player 11 Runtime application following same procedure above.
This will roll your Windows Media Player back to version 10 or 9, whichever you had installed prior to version 11. You will need to re-configure Windows Media Player again.

Your Zen should now be recognized by WMP and Creative software. You probably need to upgrade your firmware at this point, follow the instructions on upgrading your firmware, and you should be good to go.

This is a windows problem, not a creative problem. Dont blame Creative for the screwed up hotfixes that Microsoft puts out on a regular basi

Creative zen won't turn on

I had a similar problem with my Zen Vision:M, whereby the computer just stopped recognizing my device. I found out it was because Windws has updated to Service Pack 3 automatically, and for some reason my player only works with SP2. It started working again when I installed SP2 again, but then I keep getting the annoying upgdate notifications from windows.

My zen's screen wont turn on

i'm assuming you pushed the reset button at the bottom already. does it seem like it is booting (does the hard drive spin, the head move?) if nothings moves or spins i'm assuming you have a defective logic board. there is a creative zen repair guide that shows you how to do that, the part is on ebay.

Dead Creative Zen M

Usually this problem is due to the firmware. When the firmware is updated to version 1.62.02, this problem usually will be corrected. The older firmwares have problems in recognizing the battery and allowing the battery to power the unit.

You will need a wall/AC charger for the operation. Plug in the wall charger and USB cable at the same time. Your Zen should power on when connected to direct AC power via the wall charger. Once it is powered on, connect the USB cable to your computer. Then begin the firmware download.

If your Zen does not power on when connected to the wall charger, your unit is dead and its time to replace it or get the motherboard replaced via one of the Repair services offered on this website.

If the upgrade button on the firmware window is not available, it is also time to replace your motherboard due to corruption of a chip on the board.
