My Samsung SMH7187 Microwave oven display reads "SE". How do I fix it?

"SE" means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

Actually the best overall solution to this problem is usually to order a new controller assembly (control box) and install it yourself. It's pretty simple.

We have a similar service manual and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

Your part numbers may be different, so you can find helpful exploded views by entering your actual full model number at the Sears Parts Direct Web site here.

At our Web site , we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

How do I take the door apart on a Samsung SMH7187 microwave?

To disassemble the door on MOST microwave ovens, all you have to do is remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The panel is pressed in place and can be removed by using a small screwdriver or putty knife and carefully insert along the seam of the inner panel to release the clips that hold it in place so you can pry the plastic up. Work your way slowly around the perimeter of the glass to pop the panel loose. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that shields you from harmful RF radiation.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwave ovens, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

NOTE: Some doors have a hinge pin that needs to be removed, or screws holding the door in place at the hinge.

There are several parts sources available that you can use to purchase replacement parts (if required):

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites on the list also offer helpful exploded view parts listings to aid in parts identification and location. Just type in your model number and locate the parts listing for the door. If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this advice is helpful.

NOTE: If your model number does not appear on all the websites, use the PART NUMBERS from the Sears website as your search criteria. In many cases the model number may not reference to all websites, but the part numbers WILL.

How do I get the door apart on a Samsung SMH7187 microwave?

We have the service manual for model SMH7178, and maybe it will be enough help.

http://www.microwavedisplay.com/smh7178_std_ste_sm.pdf

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screw(s) you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

In some cases, you then have to gently rotate the handle to unlock it.

My samsung SMH7187STG microwave handle broke off.

You can order new "cap handles" (the plastic parts that join the aluminum handle to the door for 3.99 each plus 8.99 shipping and handling at the Sears Parts Direct Website. The part number is DE67-00222C. When you have the parts in hand, open the microwave oven door. On the inside surface of the door their is a black plastic frame around the door that pops off easily (gently use a screw driver to pry up the door frame) so that you can have access to the screws that attach the end caps to the door. You will need to hold the remant of the cap handle (the part that is probably broken off even with the glass surface on the outside side of the door) still while you unscrew the screws. Once the screws and broken remnant of the handle caps are out, you are ready to put new handle caps on the handle, then put the handle with the new handle caps on the door. By the way, Samsung was absolutely NO help with this. The agent I chatted with denied that their were any reports of the handles breaking off, so I had to cut and past the postings about the door handle breaking off ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE under "Community Q and A" into the chat box -- still the agent did not acknowldege the existance of these reports...or the possibility of a poor design. I asked for them to send me a couple of the $4 parts as a good will gesture....got nothing but lofty words about Samsung commitment etc. and only a authorized technition blah blah, no action. All you need is a strong thumbnail, a phillips head screw driver, new handle caps.

I have a samsung smh7187 microwave over the range and in the middle of cooking it just shut off. The vent at the top of the unit is still open. The outlet is fine, other things work fine in it-I unpugged...

I would suspect the oven cavity's thermal cutout / thermostat, the magnetron's thermal cutout / thermostat, and/or the fuse.

We have the service manual and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

Note that your model number's suffix may be different than this manual covers exactly.

remove the inner panel on the door itself and with the use of a Flathead screwdriver carefully pry off starting closest to the door hinge and careful not to break off the tabs push them down one by one until you free the top and remove all together now then 2 screws or nuts are accessible simply remove and replace .set the bottom of the trim panel in place then snap the upper portion back into place ..you are done
