Hello, I have a white ghost box appearing over my safari web search window on my itouch. I believe it was from a pop up window that never spawned its own safari page. Any suggestions on getting rid of it??? Thanks

SOURCE: itouch safari white ghost box window

I turned off the pop up blockers, erased the history and the cache (not cookies) and then held down the home and power button to do a soft restart. When I turned it on again the white box was gone!

I want to know if I need to update to IE 11? Why do I get a pop-up everyday telling me to do that?

Use Caution. Pop-ups can appear for various reasons and they may not be legitimate.

To check for updates for your Windows computer, simple go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Update and choose to check for updates. If you have updates, go ahead and choose to install them.

It's important for the security of your computer to have an up-to-date browser, which is why you should get the newest, especially since they are free or included like IE (Internet Explorer).

Change homepage on mac

Your homepage is the page that normally appears when you first open Safari.

  1. Open Safari if it is not already open.
  2. Choose Safari > Preferences, and then click General.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To use the page in the current Safari window or tab, click "Set to Current Page."
    • To use another page, type its address in the Homepage field.
    • To use a blank page, delete the contents of the Homepage field so that the field is blank.
  4. If you also want the homepage to appear whenever you open a new Safari window, choose Homepage from the "New windows open with" pop-up menu.

Google search

Try zooming your the Safari window (click the green button at the top left of the window's frame) or try putting Safari into full-screen mode (click arrow thingy at top right of window frame) to see if the text box reappears. You can switch in and out of full-screen mode by typing control-command-F.

If this doesn't do the trick, navigate to a SPECIFIC page in Google search (start at www.google.com), then open Safari Preferences, click the General tab, and click the "Set to current page" button.

I have a MacBook Air, OS X, using Safari. I have been away from Macs for 10 years and just bought the laptop, so trying to reintroduce myself. I can't find where to turn off the pop up blocker for certain...

Block pop-ups on webpages

  1. Open Safari if it is not already open.
  2. Choose Safari > Preferences, and then click Security.
  3. Turn on "Block pop-up windows."

Blocking pop-up windows stops only those windows that appear when you open or close a page. It does not block pop-up windows that open when you click a link.

If you block pop-up windows, you might miss important information for a webpage. For example, a website that provides services to you might use a pop-up window to request your user name.

Block unnecessary webpage content

  1. Open Safari if it is not already open.
  2. Choose Safari > Preferences, and then click Security.
  3. In the "Web content" section, select or deselect types of content you want to block or enable. For an explanation of the options, click the Help button (looks like a question mark).
