With most printer setups - you will need a bi-directional cable (the one with the ends that are rectangular and have several "pins" with clips to secure one side to the printer and the other to the computer) - most default setups will run through LPT 1 (the port) through the auto setup wizard in windows (windows should also automatically recognize the drivers for installation). You should be able to connect one end of the cable to the printer, the other end to the back of the computer (the only connection that fits) and windows should guide you the rest of the way.

Hi lesstravelro...
No, the printer does not connect to the ethernet port.

Before you hook your printer to your laptop besure to run any softwear that came with the printer.
I would also recommend that you go to the Manufacturer's website for updated drivers for your printer.
Your printer will have a printer port or usb port on the side/back of the printer to plug the printer cable into the printer.
You will plug the other end of the printer cable into a usb port on your laptop.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

I have an older HP DeskJet 722C printer and an Acer Aspire 5050 3242 laptop. Is it possible to hook up this printer?

I would say, it quite possible. If, the printer is a USB connection then it is only the matter of assuring the drivers for the printer will work properly with the operating system. You may obtain the latest drivers here HP DeskJet 722C printer

If the Printer happens to use the outdated parallel port, I would suggest to use an adapter, you can review the ones currently available online here Parallel to USB printer cable

It is always possible to use old peripherals on newer machines, it is only the matter of researching the internet to rather any available adapters are on the market to maintain older printers.

I hope this is helpful!

HP Officejet 6310 drivers will not install

When you install the printer wait till you are prompted to hook up the usb cable. If you hook it up sooner that is the problem. You can have the usb cable to printer but not to the computer. Then run your install disc and you should be fine.

You can download the manual from here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00563764.pdf

Usually the Blue cable is a USB cable goes to the printer while the yellow cable is the network going to Internet.
