Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-55WF655 36" Rear Projection HDTV

Sony KDF-55W655 LCD TV with screen problem

I have an area in the bottom rt hand corner of my screen that looks like a RED CRAYON was scribbled on it. When the screen is supposed to be white or near white it is very visible. I was told that the LCD is damaged in that area, which I believe since it appears that the screen is only not working there. It's about 8" wide by 16" high, but is random, not a complete block. I was wondering if there is an easy fix to this problem such as changing some part and not the whole screen.

Thanks

Your optical block ( light engine) is bad. Heat generated by the lamp circuit with its poorly designed ventilation system, cause the LCD panels inside the light engine to fail. They are the size of a postage stamp. There are 3 LCDs, for red, blue, and green. The heat causes them to warp and de-laminate.

Sony has systematically downed played the scope of this issue. It appears however that virtually every LCD projector they make can develop damage in the light engine which is extremely expensive to fix.

I suggest contacting Sony and your state's attorney general's office of consumer complaints asking for action on this.

Hey there Aleman500-

I had this exact same issue with mine. Started noticing the "blue cloud" on the bottom portion of the screen.

Please follow this link and the instructions listed. I opted for an "upgrade" that was offered (brand new 46" bravia lcd) but sony had also offered to fix my tv for free.

Sony KDF-42WE655 (LCD 42 inch)

I have the exact same problem with my 42" LCD HDTV. When I called Sony "customer support" they told me NOTHING. However, I began researching this issue and found out that Sony knows all about this problem. It's a part called the "Optical Block" and THEY are supposed to reimburse you for the repair! The claim form is on the Sony Website. Here's the link: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=KF42WE610&LOC=3 Look inside the yellow box on the right and click on: Additional service coverage information for your TV (scribble / line pattern on screen) Hope this helps you!!
