Question about Canon PowerShot G3 Digital Camera

Zoom Browser cannot recognize my Canon Powershot G3

I have loaded G3 software onto a computer with Vista. Connecting the camera to the computer opens ZoomBrowser but when I click connect to camera, I get the error message: ''Cannot detect camera, check connections and try again''. The cable I use works with a different computer with the previous windows OS. How do I fix this?

I have the same problem with ZoomBrowser, however the Canon File Viewer Utility program CAN see the the pictures. I have upgraded all the s/w versions for Vista and W2000 without resolving the problem.

I agree the best way is to download from the card, only in my case my card reader does not recognise my high capacity card, therefore I download using my XP machine.

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place? Please see the following post, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos:

If the particular card reader that you're using does not recognize the card, the reader itself may be outdated. You may need to search online for a replacement USB card reader that would be capable of reading your particular card. Most are extremely inexpensive these days, with cost virtually not an issue.

My OS is Vista. I have updated my Zoom Browser software. I was not able to download pictures from my Powershot A40.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

Camera direct to computer connections are notoriously problematic. (Lousy with bugs etc.) I avoid the problem entirely by using a card reader ($15-20) combined with Picasa3 (free software from Google). Remove card from camera and insert into card reader, connect to computer via USB and download images with Picasa3. Works great and is relatively cheap.

If you only want to copy the images from your G3 onto your PC, you can use the pre-installed Windows XP application (if you have that OS) for that purpose. If you need the full S/W package, please go to the Canon Website;

Canon Not recongized by Computer

Try to change the USB connection type in the camera menu. There are several types like Mass storage, Pict. bridge, and the one you need is most likely PTP. Anyway, try all of those and maybe it will work. That is the most common problem when connecting cameras to Vista based systems.

If you have a Vista, it is not compatible. It will not download the Zoom browser. I had to purchase a Memory card reader/writer to download pics on my laptop from my camera and by passing the printer.

Device driver for g3

Dear diksi:

Unfortunately your G3 is incompatible with Windows Vista. To
do downloads to your computer you will therefore have to utilize a compact flash card reader. You can get them from any store that sells digital cameras. I bought one from Wal-Mart three months ago for $14.00.

You can still load and use your software however. You just won't be able to download using Canon Camera Window.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

If you have a card reader it would be much easier and you do not need any softwares.
