Air is leaking from regulator knob on my d55146 compressor. will a regulator rebuild kit fix it or do i need a hole new regulator?

Yes. A rebuild kit will include all seals and o-rings needed.
This project is best handled at a service center...Reason being that the rebuild requires making sure that all seal surfaces are a clean machine surface to properly reseat and seal..

Dewalt d55146 wont start

Not that I am aware of. The cord should go into a control box where the on off switch is. The motor wires come from that to the motor. I would check the switch box and more importantly the cover. The cover contains the plastic knob that turns the switch on and off. If the knob gets messed up it may not work correctly. The cover is available by itself. Here is a diagram with the part numbers.

What's with the warning label limiting the tank life to the year 2020? It seems to only be on Dewalt compressors.

I am thinking that like an underground gasoline storage tank or a BBQ grill propane tank, big brother has instituted a maximum life on the tank because it is pressurized.
