My laptop was not charging right and I noticed the plug wasn't sitting tightly, so I bought a new charger. The day I got it, I plugged it in and it started to charge. I turned it on and it loaded up fine, all icons and everything. I turned it off and let it sit a few hours to finish charging. When I turned it back on, it started to boot up and then the screen turned pitch black. I turned it off, and on again, but still black. What might cause this? Is this something I can try to fix myself? Or can have fixed at a decent price? I'm not sure if the charger is just a coincedence or if it caused a short or something. I don't know much about computers. I've had it a few years, not sure the avg life span on one of these, but it's always worked well for the web surfing I use it for so I'm hoping fixing is an option rather than pitching it. Thanks in advance if you can help me.

Re: Dell inspiron 2200 - screen is black
Sounds like your graphics card has died on ya. If it is on board graphics with no expansion slots for a card you'll have to get another motherboard. If it has expansion slots for graphics you could find out what is compatible and buy one. as far as installation. I would have someone with knowledge about these things to install it...Hope this helps

Hi. Blinking orange light on battery indicator means it's charging. To make sure, point your mouse to the battery icon on the Taskbar located on the lower right-hand corner of your screen...near the system time and speaker icons. It should say plugged in, charging. If you see "plugged in, not charging, then you need to call Dell Phone Support for additional help.
We are talking about the main battery / not cmos battery?
Does charger lamp illuminate?
If so ensure plugs are securely pressed in to Laptop and charger.
If charger lamp does NOT light up try a different wall plug.
Surely Dell would have tested that battery and charging before returning.
1. Try and check the voltage output of your adapter using any ordinary voltmeter. It should have a voltage reading close to the dc rating printed at the back of your laptop.
2. Even if you have problem with battery, the laptop should power on. Otherwise, if both battery and charger is working fine, then there is a problem with the charging circuit that is built-in on the laptop's mainboard.
If charger is defective, then its more practical to buy a new one instead of sending it or repair. Repaired chargers can cause more problem for you in the future.
Try to turn off the computer and remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook. Turn on the computer with just the charger plugged in. If it doesnt turn on. you may have a bad power port.
If it has no power/charging issue since that happened except that the indicator light doesnt turn on when you plug in the charger, you may just need a bios update. Click here. That's the bios update for the inspiron 2200 from dell's website. You should have at least 30% charge on the battery and the ac adapter should be plugged in so you can run it. The computer will restart and will come back normally after this. I'd suggest that you backup your files before running this.
