Connect cable to the "HDMI" port on the back of the PS3. Connect the other side of the HDMI cable to the "HDMI" port on the Toshiba TV. If the Toshiba TV has multiple HDMI ports, make note of which port you plugged the HDMI cable into. Change the Toshiba TV to its "HDMI" video display mode. Press the "Power" button on the PS3 to turn the console on. The PS3 will automatically detect the HDMI cable. Select "Yes" to use the audio and video from the HDMI cable. Select "Yes" to have the PS3 automatically use the optimal settings for the Toshiba TV. Select "Yes" to accept the recommended resolution. Press the "X" button to save the settings

Ive had the same problem with mine. I have a universal remote and a blu ray player separately installed on my tv. The only way i was able to play the ps3 without calling geek squad to reconfigure my tv was to unplug the blu ray and put the ps3 in its spot and push watch bluray. It worked great.
As you already checked PS3 and HDMI cable, select HDMI input in TV and connect PS3 via HDMI cable. TV should show PS3 picture. And if still no joy then HDMI input port in TV is bad and need to replace input board/ main board.
The 3-Port HDMI System Selector is by all conventional standards a
standalone HDMI system selector. It is independently powered, it comes
with its own remote, and use with a PS3 is technically optional.
Obviously, however, the 3-Port HDMI System Selector was aesthetically
designed for the PS3, and it features some nice benefits for PS3 users.
For starters, the 3-Port HDMI System Selector doubles as a cooling
system with its two built-in cooling fans. Additionally, the system
selector also integrates with the PS3 and the included remote can be
used for controlling DVD and Blu-Ray playback.
