I was having the same problem with my new Juki.  I discovered today what I was doing wrong.  Notice on the diagram that the thread is in red?  and in the picture, it is a dotted line at one place?  That is where the thread goes behind the threader, and under.  Then bring the thread to the front of the threader where there is a guide for your thread at the bottom of the white piece.  If you put your thread behind the threader and then run it through the guide (a little **** in the white piece on the end) then you can let go of the threader and it pulls it right through!  Hope this helps!

Thread the machine to the point where the thread is in the needle bar thread guide. With you left hand hold the upper thread towards you. With your right hand pull down on the threader unit and twist it so the tiny hook goes through the eye of the needle and hold it there. Now take the thread that you are holding in your left hand and pass it to the rear of the machine under the small guides on the threader hook. Release the threader mechanism and the thread and the tiny hook should pull a small loop through the eye. Pull on this small loop (which will be on the right side) all the way through the eye.
Viola!

good luck!

I have a Juki TL-98Q The thread cutter and the needle up down button don't work. How can I fix them?

Has a piece of broken needle or chunk of thread jammed into the blades and are not letting them move? If there was a big time thread jam it can actually break one of your blades and you will have to go to a repair man and have the blade replaced.

My Juki TL-98Q won't turn on. No hummm, nothing. I've checked all connections and they are fine. Cords are in good shape. It was running beautifully prior to this.

If the light is on but no noise at all when you press on the control it must be a break in the lead at the very least or the brushes on the motor at the worst

Needle thread breaks while quilting on machine frame

My friend and I both have the Juki 98Q but on different frames - we were both having problems (needles breaking, thread getting tangled) we removed the thin metal thing inside the bobbin case and have had no problems since (over a year now!).
