I have a kitchenaid top load super capacity washer,6 years old.It will not agitate or spin makes a grindind sound.Feels like the drum inside is off the holding{if there is such a thing}.I have checked to make sure there is nothing caught around the agitator inside .The machine worked fine on first load no problems or odd sounds.Help have 4 kids!!!! Is this something worth fixing, can I do it myself?

It is faily easy to fix. all you need is the part..Can this be fixed - b9ee9bf.jpg
You flip up the controls and remove the cabinet. The pump and motr come off easily. These web pages really give a good explanation:

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding down the control panel, then swing it upwards.
Pop the s clips in the rear and remove the lid switch disconnect.
Tip the case forward and remove it.You will now be able to repair the
    washer!

The lid must be closed for spin. The lid has a striker in it that
pushes against the lidswitch arm. This switch allows for spin IF the
lid is closed. The switch may have failed. Mechanically the striker may
be broken or the actuator arm may be broken.

here is a broken lid switch

You can test the switch. If you have a meter. If not you can
simply bypass this switch. In my left hand here is the lid switch male
plug which I have removed from the lid switch harness. If I wanted to i
could simply place a jumper between the 2 outside wires and the washer
    would spin.

Do not leave it bypassed if you have small children or braindead brother in laws.

    A 3 piece drive coupling

NOTE: newer models have the screw hidden

Here is a view of the washer with the case removed.

To get to the broken coupling
    remove the pump first then
    the motor,both are held
    together with quick clips.

pictured here is a broken drive coupling.

Line up the new part and replace
    the motor, pump, and
    case in reverse order.
    NOTE:
This looks hard but if you take
your time it is easy enough to save you big bucks!

I have a GE, 4 to 5 years old, Super Capacity WJRR4170G1WW. When it agitates, the drum goes back and forth with the agitator. I though it should stay still. Please advise.

sorry to say you have a very expensive to repair problem ):
the transmission has a brake built into which is suppose to hold the tub in place during the agitation cycle and then release on the spin cycle to spin. the brake isnt engaging and the only fix is to replace the transmisson which is very expensive.
it may work for awhile then as it gets worse and the tub moves more during the wash cycle water will slosch out of it all over the floor, sorry to break the bad new

During spin cylces very load noises----bearings gone less than three old got estimate of 4-500 to fix does that sound right?

Yes, that is a good price for a main bearing repair. I wouldn't recommend it. I would buy either a whirlpool top load washer with and agitator ( we are doing to many repairs on the wp washers without agitators), or I would buy the super capacity front load duet. You will save more money in the long run with the front loader. Both of these have been the best washers built in the last 30 years. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Washing machine making loud roaring sound during spin cycle

Very likely the main bearing and drum shaft-inner tub will need replace. Not worth repairing, easily can cost more than the washer. Buy a new whirlpool front load duet, super capacity or the top load whirlpool with and agitator. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Whirlpool ultimate care II top load skips agitation turns

I have the same problem, and i think it is a problem with the agitator i pulled mine off, (remove softener insert below that is a seal easily removed and then a 7/16'' bolt) seems a 'clutch' mechanism between base and upper agitators is shot.

My kitchenaid top-load washer will not spin with a heavy load.

this will sound odd to you, but having done this for some time, i would bet there is something between the basket and the tub. sound impossible, but sometimes thing so get in there.......like lighters! you have to take the agitator out, get a speacial spanner whench to remove the nut holding down the tub(maybe $20 buck) then pull the tub out and see whats in there.

Kenmore 80 series only 3 yrs old, won't, spin and the agitator appears to be stripped

your agitator dogs are stripped there about $10.00,remove cap to replace. easy, need 1/2 to 3/8 adapter or 7/16 socket depending on model. and your coupler is broken about $20.00 its what runs yous washer its like your belt under neath between motor and transmission , less cloths max water will stop it from happening again

Washer won't spin

press in clips each corner with putty knife and lift top remove screws bottom front panel slide panel down and off ..locate pump. turn washer to spin and switch on if faint hum felt at pump more than likely plugged with something if pump is running fine ck for something in drain lines..most washers i would say lid switch but on those i believe if switch was bad wouldn't aditate either ck by raising lid ..if agitates with lid raised ck lid switch if not switch ok
