How to Remove Watch Case to Replace Battery

Is there a guide to tell what time of case back each watch has? If it isn't obvious how to take the back off, I'm wondering if there's some sort of tip sheet...??

THANKS!

The anser to the question is you need a special tool to open the watch as this is a screw back and you can buy this from Watch repair dealer from about £10

Battery replacement

Remove back. Remove battery. Replace with new one. Replace back.

Obviously, Murphy's law states that your watch has a back which requires a key to open it! In which case you should probably take it to a watch repair shop. NOTE If the watch is rated waterproof to a certain depth AND you wear it when swimming then you need to ensure that the battery is replaced under pressure. Otherwise you'll find that you've lost that depth resistance. Have a look at. http://watchbattery.co.uk/

How to replace the battery of a emporio armani ar0106

Do you have a photo of the watch case back? It's either going to unscrew in which case you may need a special took, or it might be a snap-back case in which case it can be pried off.
With the case back off, its best to use a magnifying glass or eye loupe to look closely and determine how the battery is held in place. It's usually not to difficult to discern how to remove it (if you send me the movement number I can guide more specifically. It's important to replace it with the same battery and it will be numbered for identification.

Time to replace the battery, but cannot manage to remove the back cover. Any special tricks? I'm familiar with using sharp knife blade to do this, but it's not working. Thanks!

You defenately need a watch case opener.

It can be more than difficult to open a watch case with a sharp knive/screwdriver without destroying it.

A case opener can be the only solution.

Otherwise you'll have to bring your watch to a professional to get the battery replaced.

How do you get battery out of watch? Do I have to take out all screws and remove top piece?

The back of the watch has six rectangular notches around the edge. Using a jeweler's case wrench and 4-pin vise to hold the watch align the three teeth of the watch to three of the notches on the back and turn counter-clockwise. Considering that the tools alone are going to cost you a minimum of $30 - $40, and then you'll have to purchase a battery for $5 - $7, I'm going to recommend that you have the battery professionally replaced for $10 - $15 at your local jeweler. Keep in mind, I'm also considering the fact that you suggested dismantling the watch in order to change the battery. This is obviously an indication that you have no experience in the most basic servicing of a timepiece and to ensure that your timepiece isn't damaged, you really should leave this to a professional. I need to replace battery

All you need is to open watch case back, remove the rubber seal and unclip the contact. Take the battery out (memorize polarity: + and -) and buy the same one. Fit new battery in the right way back in watch, fit the contact, place back rubber seal and refit watch case back. Reset the watch. Done.

I have a Majestron quartz pocket watch. How do I replace the battery?

  • Flip over your pocket watch. Remove the back of your watch. The back of watches are either screwed on by four small Phillips head screws (unscrew them) or the watch has a press inserted back (slide a thin knife blade under the edge of the back of the watch and pry it off).
  • Remove the circular watch battery out of the back of the watch.
  • Take the battery to any department store or watch store and purchase a new replacement battery.
  • Insert the new battery into the back of the watch.
  • Screw on or push on the back of the watch. Set the watch to the correct time.

How to change battery on a swatch skin watch

    1. Place the watch in case holder. Place the watch in the case holder, if you have one. If you do not, place it on a soft cloth.
    2. Check for room to work. Check to see if there is room to attach the adjustable case wrench and rotate it 360 degrees. If not remove watch band.
    3. Remove case back. Fit the adjustable case wrench into the slots on the case back. Tighten it down until it is snug. Be careful not to slip with this tool as it can scratch the case back of your watch. Work slowly. When it is unscrewed gently pry up the case back taking great care not to damage the internal gasket. If the gasket gets damaged it will need to be replaced with the battery to retain water resistance.
    4. Remove battery. The battery will be held in place by some type of retention device. It will need to be removed. Some clips will be removed by using tweezers. Some clips may be moved using a screw driver, and some simply bend out of the way slightly. Remember how it was removed as it must be put back in place exactly for the circuit to be completed after battery change. If the clip is removed, place it and any screws in a paper cup to prevent loss. Remember how the battery was seated, plus (positive) side up or down etc. it needs to be replaced correctly to work.
    5. Test battery. Using the battery tester check the battery. If it is dead move to next step, if it is not take the watch to a jewelers for inspection.
    6. Clean and inspect battery box. Inspect the battery box the battery came out of. If there is corrosion take it to jewelers for inspection. If there is light dust it may be cleaned with a clean soft cloth.
    7. Buy battery. Use the numbers on the battery and buy a new one. Occasionally the number will be obsolete and you will be referenced to a replacement battery in the battery charts. This is the time to also replace the gasket if you need to. Check with a watch maker or jeweler, or the watch company to buy a replacement. We cannot stress enough how important this gasket is to a water resistant watch, without its integrity your fine watch may no longer be resistant.
    8. Replace battery. Using the plastic tweezers if you have them, or fingers wearing cotton gloves, replace the battery. Never use bare fingers as finger oils may corrode or short out the new battery. Carefully replace the retention device as it was remove.
    9. Replace case back. Make sure that the gasket is in place, and not pinched or caught in the case back when you set it in place. Screw down the case back using your fingers until it is tight and needs the case wrench. Attach case wrench as before and tighten down the case back.
    10. Reset and clean watch. Using the appropriate method reset the watch. Use the polishing cloth to clean off any dirt and finger prints.
OR...take to your local jeweler/watchmaker who has the appropiate tools and let them do it for you!!!! :)

The most water resistant watches will have a screwed down case back and crown for maximum water resistance, both of which are backed by internal gaskets. These are the types this articlde will concentrate on. To change the battery in a water resistant watch you will need:
    • Adjustable case tool
    • Case holder ' + google_ads[0].line1 + '
      ' + google_ads[0].line2 + ' ' + google_ads[0].line3 + '

      ' + google_ads[0].visible_url + '' + ' Ads by Google'; } else if (google_ads.length > 1) { s += 'Ads by Google
      '; for(i = 0; i ' + google_ads[i].line1 + '
      ' + google_ads[i].line2 + ' ' + google_ads[i].line3 + '
      ' + google_ads[i].visible_url + '
      '; } s += ''; } document.write(s); return; } google_ad_client = 'pub-8735055091446807'; google_ad_channel = '5953492595'; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_max_num_ads = '2'; google_ad_type = 'text_html'; //google_image_size = '468x55'; google_feedback = 'off'; // --> google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);

How do i remove the back on my sekonda mens watch

mcdevito75 here, Generally thr back is simply pryed off useing a sharp knife (steak) or with a case opener, or at times the back is screwed on, little square holes around the back of the watch require a special tool, or there may be 4 screws holding down the back to the case, even if you get the back off you may need Jewelers screwdrivers to remove / replace the battery. BEST BET, look for a small watch repair shop in your area.
