Meat Probe doesn't work

Trying to use our meat probe for the first time. Set the probe temp and the oven temp properly and hit start and the message we get is that the cooking is done and then it says the meat probe shorted and flashes F3 E2, but I can't find this troubleshooting reference # anywhere.

The F3 E2 error code indicates that the electronic oven control board in the range senses an over-temperature condition in the oven.

This can be caused by a failed temperature sensor probe, a wiring problem between the sensor and the control board, or a failed electronic oven control board.
If the oven is apparently not overheating when this error code appears, then your likely failure is the temperature sensor probe.
If the oven is overheating, then you likely have a failed electronic oven control board due to a stuck relay not cycling the oven heating element off properly.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

The probe doesn't work on my JT912 GE wall oven

Test Continunity for your Probe, if it has good continuity, then you have a internal issue with the Oven... More than likely, you are going to need a Technician

My GE double oven displays a message to set probe. When I press probe it prompts me to input a code (3 dashes)? Can you provide via e-mail what numbers can be used to set probe?

It is asking for the temperature that you want the meat to be. Example if you want your meat to have a medium doneness then usually it is 150F. You would enter 150. The probe will beep when the meat has reached that temperature

What is a U80 meat probe error and how do I fix it?

Error U80: Shorted meat probe

1) Food, moisture, or other substance is in the socket or on the oven connection end of the meat probe. Check: Verify proper operation with new probe (replace probe). If still fails with new probe check wiring of housing to eliminate shorting to sheet metal. Solution: Clean socket and meat probe.

2) Bad meat probe (shorted). Check:Use new meat probe to test for correct values in the service screens. Solution: Replace meat probe.

3) Shorted socket or wiring. Check: Test socket at connector J20 on relay board. Solution: Replace meat probe socket.

Functionality when error U80 reported: Cooking and cleaning are available but meat probe options will not be available.

User action/solution:
1) Verify oven connection end of meat probe is clean and no food, moisture or other substance in is the meat probe socket.
2) Call for service.

Oven will ask for temp probe when i am not using one. it then turns itself off.

As you did not include a model number I can suggest you insert your meat probe into it's receptacle and remove it again quickly about a half dozen times.....maybe even a dozen times. The meat probe plug is like an older style headphone plug. The receptacle that it plugs into may need to complete a circuit for the electronic control. When the probe is not in the receptacle, the receptacle contacts touch to complete a circuit. These contacts may have become dirty from normal oven usage. You will be cleaning these contacts using the probe as I explained. If that doesn't solve the problem you may want to call in a professional.

I have a Sunbeam digital meat probe thermometer used once. Now the display for thermo/temp comes up H instead of the temperature of the meat. What is wrong?

I have the same problem. The problem is the probe went bad. I had a friend with another sumbeam digital probe (the mavrick) put that probe into mine and the temperature reading was working properly. So, now I am looking for a replacement probe. but looks like I will have to just buy another digital meat probe.
