That was what I was thinking too, especially since warranty ran out 6 weeks ago. Hoping for an easier fix, guess I'll investigate repairing it myself. This comp. has never been quite right, last Toshiba I'll buy. Thanks for the input.

Started with the computer staying on when closed, not hibrinating. Then started having issues with it not booting up without hitting F5 and manually resetting defaults. Even this would be intermitent, as I'd have to turn it on and off multiple times to even se the screen. Power light would go on, a couple of keyboard lights and DVD light would go on, but no screen. Finally, no matter how many times I turn it on and off, no screen.

Had diminishing luck with booting up manually, even before screen completely died. CMOS error (this was always there from the start), and system battery dead messages were last I saw.

My Toshiba A215 has exactly same problem, I was able to turn it on few times by removing battery and power for a while and then inserting it back in, but now it is just dead. I can see the two blue lights but the power button will not turn the laptop on.

I have the same exact problem, I'm not even looking into getting it fixed, but I'm looking into other laptops, definitely NOT a Toshiba. Mine was not right from the start either, It always shut off in the middle of doing anything. I was not impressed by it.

I believe you are the proud owner of a new paperweight!
I do computer repairs and nothing will save this short of a new motherboard(there is none)I have removed the Bios battery which would have reset the Bios.Still no boot the cpu and DVD start on plugin but no screen.(that's wrong) Toshiba says a Bios update will fix this problem but first you got to get it to boot. So if you have a A-215 that runs but
BSOD's (black screen of death)quickly update the Bios.

It sounds like the motherboard is bad. There is no power being sent to the fan and that means that somewhere in the the mother board is not sending the info.

Toshiba satilite a215 s7422 bios password how to cleare

You'll need a special tool that only Toshiba has. I believe you can get yours cleared for FREE if you tell them that all of a sudden out of nowhere you have a bios password. Stick to that story because they've already admitted to the problem with many of their laptops. You'll have to find an authorized Toshiba repair center to take care of it for you. Otherwise I believe they charge around $100 to clear it.

Don't bother to try the cmos battery trick, it doesn't work on your model. The password is stored on an onboard chip.

You can do the sytem recovery by loading the first disk then turn your NB off. Please hold down F12 after power on then select CD/DVD drive then Windows will be loading files. Select the first options for each prompt. You will be asked for the second disk later. Plug in ac adapter since it will take around an hour. Hope this helps.
