Yes. Just the same as a computer can if you are not careful what you download. Only download items from websites you trust, and ideally download them to a computer, check for viruses, then transfer the file to the phone. Here is the link to the user manual if you need it; Check page 56/57 - "internet security" - there is basically a built in security function, just check it is on. Later models have anti virus software that can be added and used in the same way as a computer AV software, but it appears there is none for the 550, so apparently the built in internet security function works well. Hope this helps :)

    Ps if you need a good free anti virus program for your computer, to ensure security on that, try;

and download the antivirus and anti spyware programs. They are excellent - better than most you have to pay for.

Chrome won't let me download .exe files. It says "Antivirus software detected a virus and the file was deleted." The files are NOT infected with a virus. Some exe files come from ISP, AOL, and they are...

Which anti-virus program are you using ? As this issue do not pertain to the browser rather than your anti-virus. Its quite possible that you have some infected file already in your computer. I suggest you to update the anti-virus program and run a complete system scan and then try to download the files that you are trying previous. Also check if Chrome is set as your default browser because if so it will automatically open the compatible file with it rather than AOL as you desire.

How to Reduce Spreading of Virus on the Hard Drive

<b><u>An insight in VIRUS INFECTION and VIRUS SPREADING</u></b><br /> <br /> In today's computing spreading of virus is fast and very common.<br /> Even with an up to dated antivirus software the spreading of the virus infection is fast.<br /> This is because, we are not aware of how the virus spreads in our system.<br /> Once we know how the virus infects and spreads in our system then we will definitely reduce the risk, time and money spent.<br /> <br /> <b><u>Here is a short insight about viruses:</u></b><br /> <br /> 1) Virus is a small program code enabling it to to mingle or merge with other program codes.<br /> <br /> 2) The Virus Program Code is written such that it deletes data, corrupts data, steals data send it to the maker of the code, etc.<br /> <br /> 3) The virus cannot run on its own. It has to be executed just like other exe program files. That is why the autorun.inf file is required.<br /> <br /> <b><u>Now for an insight how we get infected:</u></b><br /> <br /> 1) Thorugh the internet: Usually when we browse any web site files are downloaded from the web server to our temporary internet folder(in windows) Then our Browser software reads the files and executes them in the browser window for us to view the web site.( If you are a website Designer you would understand this for others get an insight how internet browsers work), So when we are in the internet Virus files attach themself to the downloading files and enter our system in the temporary folder, From here they are executed by our browser software or when any program accesses the temporary folder.<br /> <br /> 2) Another one is we download a lot of data from the internet, we should be careful on what we are downloading because if the data downloaded is infected with virus then we are downloading the virus to our system along with the data, Don't download the data unless you are sure you could trust the maker of the data, program, etc.<br /> <br /> 3) From other medias like Flash Drive, CD's, DVD,s,etc.:<br /> We copy a lot of data to our computer from our friends and relatives, so if the data is already infected with virus we copy the virus to our system also, when we run os use the data the virus is executed along with it.<br /> <br /> <b><u>Now for an insight how Virus Spreads:</u></b><br /> <b></b> <br /> Just like any other program code the virus code has to be executed.<br /> That is why the virus merges with other exe's which are executable and not with the data file.<br /> <br /> For eg: a file with .avi, .dat, .3gp, etc. all these files are data files they dont execute, but they are used by exe files like wmplayer.exe, winamp.exe, vlplayer.exe, etc. The .avi .dat .3gp files are data files, the wmplayer.exe, winamp.exe vlplayer.exe are program files. Thus mostly exe program file get infected with virus.<br /> <br /> Usually when our system gets infected and any antivirus program cleans our system you can notice that the windows media player or winamp player or vlc media player does'nt work because it is removed or deleted by the antivirus for virus infection but the songs or video you saved is unharmed in the harddisk.<br /> <br /> That is why the virus code hangs or merges or infects mostly exe program files, So that it is executed along with the program file.<br /> <br /> So when you run an infected windows media player to play a song the virus code is also run along with the windows media player. Thus the virus is run again and again.<br /> <br /> There are hundreds of program files in the os for doing various tasks.<br /> we are going to look into just one program which the virus uses to spread itself in our system.<br /> <br /> The Program is non other than explorer.exe in windows. This program is needed to view or browse the data files stored in the hard disk.<br /> When we double click the My Computer Icon on the desktop the explorer.exe is executed which show you a window on your screen with the hard disk drives and cd dvd drives in the windows Now you can imagine how frequently you use the explorer.exe. You use it to view any data on the computer, even our desktop uses explorer.exe. This program is executed right when windows logs us on.<br /> <br /> When this program file is infected, it keeps on executing the virus each time we use the program. by this method the virus spreads fast to every parts of the hard disk.<br /> <br /> Likely there is a method to avoid executing the virus along with the explorer.exe each time we use it.<br /> <br /> When we double click any icon or object on our windows screen we execute the default command in the right click menu. Usually it is the Run Command. for eg: when you double click word the word.exe runs, similarly when we double click the my computer icon the default right menu option is <b>Open</b> which run the explorer.exe program.<br /> <br /> Instead of using this method to view files and data in our system we could use an alternate method which is using the explorer menu option when we right click my computer or right click the windows start button or in fact the explorer option is there whenever you right click any object on the screen.<br /> <br /> By using this explorer option in the right click you get a window with two panes one to the left and one to the right. In the left pane you have the directory structure showing all the directories and folders in our hard disk and in the right pane the content of the directory or folder selected in the left pane.<br /> <br /> Thus in this process we dont execute any code or program command when viewing the data in our hard disk. because we do not execute the explorer.exe more than once.<br /> <br /> So, Imagine how we reduce the spreading of virus by using this method.<br /> <br /> Say you have a file saved in your hard disk in this location<br /> <br /> <b>C:\data\monday\20-11-2010\office\media\todaysjob.doc</b><br /> <br /> If you want to open the file with word we will double click my computer, then double click C Drive, then Double Click data folder, then double click monday folder, then double click 20-11-2010 folder, then double click till you come to the media folder then you double click the todaysjob.doc which will execute the word.exe program which reads the data in the todaysjob.doc file and displays the content as required. In this process see how many time you will execute the virus, You will run the virus Seven Times.<br /> <br /> In our Alternate method You will run the Explorer.exe only once, Then on you just navigate to the media folder then double click the todaysjob.doc file in the right panel. So you execute the virus only once. <br /> <br /> Hence you reduce the spreading of VIRUS to a great extend.<br /> <br /> Good Luck, If there are any mistake please bare with me, I am not a good writer. If you have any Question Keep Me Posted.

What is a Virus and how do I know if I have one ?

There are some obvious symptoms that your computer will develop when it gets infected with a virus. But the first thing I have to mention is that if you had a decent antivirus program installed on your computer you would not have a problem. The virus programs now days are fantastic in crushing any chances of a viruses infecting your computer.

What is a virus?
A virus is a small program that gets into your computer undetected in order to cause havoc. This small software program has either been developed because the author enjoys causing disasters for other people or sometimes for monetary gains. Sometimes a virus is packaged in a file that is called a trojan virus. It is disguised as something else, and once it has gained access to your computer it then releases its intent.

How does a virus get onto my computer?
The people that develop these viruses are constantly finding new ways to infiltrate your computer. When one door shuts, another one opens for them. However the most common ways to get a virus on your computer is through the internet. You might download a file that contains a virus, or maybe you might open an email that has one attached to it. Sometimes even visiting a bad website can infect your computer. The worst one of all, however, is when people download illegal cracked software. This software has usually been taken apart and repackaged with a few extras attached. Maybe you download music or videos from the internet. How do you know you are actually downloading the file you intended to. The file may be named to deceive you, and once you open it you will release the virus.

How do I know if I have a virus or not?
If your computer has been infected with a virus you will quickly see odd signs that it exists. Weird things start happening that you cannot explain. Files might move around, odd error messages may appear, programs might start to fail. For example if your virus scanner program stops working then it could have been disabled by a virus. With all this action taking place in the background your computer will also start to run slow and seem like it is busy all the time.
When browsing the internet you might find that you will not able to visits the pages that you choose. You will be redirected to different websites. You computer might also be sending emails to everyone in your contact list without you knowing.

What can a virus do to my computer hardware components?
People think that a virus simply attacks the file systems of your computer, however this is not true. Some viruses are designed to damaged computer hardware components until they are ruined completely.
Many people will argue that a virus only infects software, however all hardware is controlled by various types of software. Infact the entire computer is controlled by BIOS which is software. BIOS controls the temperature of the motherboard. What if a viruses only purpose was to change the temperature control on your motherboard. The motherboard would overheat and fry itself.
In the old days viruses used to be developed to set the read speed of a floppy disk drive to speeds beyond its capability. The Floppy disk drive would overheat and fry from being overworked. Now days Windows Vista has a service called Superfetch that searches your hard drive, finds out what you use the most, and makes it available for you.. If you made a virus to control Superfetch, we could have a serious problem. Most Vista users already have Superfetch disabled on their computer. A virus could enable it, tell it all files are important, keep it searching non stop, and fry your hard drive that way. Now I can here someone saying "yeah right, not with all the security we have around today". Well you should never underestimate these guys who develop viruses. They can work around anything.

What should I do if I get a virus?
If you suspect that your computer has a virus, scan your computer asap with an antivirus program. If you do not have one or yours is not working, download another one, or get a free scan using the free online virus scanners, such as :-
Symantec Security Check :-
Kaspersky lab :-

There is no guarantee that these free scanners will cure your computer but they might just confirm the fact that you actually have a virus.
If you find viruses but cannot remove them you will need to take your computer to a professional before you lose everything. Another option is to format your computer which means you loose all the files on it and re-install a fresh copy of the operating system. You can backup your files first, but please be aware that they might be infected with a virus also.
If you have scanned your computer, found viruses, and successfully deleted them, then now is the time to buy a decent program that will stop this from happening again.
Do not continue to use the computer without taking action because the longer you leave it the further the virus can spread.
What file types commonly contain viruses when you download them?
Lets face it, downloading is a dangerous business, especially when you have important files stored on your computer. Any file you download can contain a virus. My rule for downloading is to ask myself "Do I know and trust this website I am about to download from?"

Here are a few examples of common files that could contain viruses :-
EXE FILE: If you download a program or anything that requires an install file then it will be an .exe file. When you press on it to install to your computer you could be releasing a virus.
ZIP FILE: People download zip files from the internet that contain any other file type and you will not see it's contents until you open it. A zip file might have an exe file in it.
SCR FILE: Free screensavers for your computer. They always have something bad in them. Sometimes adware or viruses.
DOC FILE: A Microsoft word document can contain macros and small scripts that are viruses.

If you haven't got antivirus software installed on your computer, then refer to : for Microsoft recommended antivirus softwares.

My cumputer is at risk idont know how to repair the problem

Try to download and install free trial AVG 2011 anti virus at When installed, scan your computer for a virus threat and a report will display informing which files are infected with viruses. Then delete all the files which are infected with virus.

If still does not solve your problem, the only way to remove completely the virus is to install fresh operating system on your computer because it will wipe all your files including the viruses. So make sure you back up your files and you have all the hardware driver components of your computers.

Please rate and make a comment if you find this solution very helpful and might help others as well. Post more comments if you need more help.

Virus Guide: 11 things you should know

What is a computer virus --> Computer viruses are small software programs that are designed to spread from one computer to another and to interfere with computer operation.
A virus might corrupt or delete data on your computer, use your e-mail program to spread itself to other computers, or even erase everything on your hard disk.
Computer viruses are often spread by attachments in e-mail messages or instant messaging messages. That is why it is essential that you never open e-mail attachments unless you know who it's from and you are expecting it.
Viruses can be disguised as attachments of funny images, greeting cards, or audio and video files.
Computer viruses also spread through downloads on the Internet. They can be hidden in illicit software or other files or programs you might download.
To help avoid computer viruses, it's essential that you keep your computer current with the latest updates and antivirus tools, stay informed about recent threats, run your computer as a standard user (not as administrator), and that you follow a few basic rules when you surf the Internet, download files, and open attachments.
Once a virus is on your computer, its type or the method it used to get there is not as important as removing it and preventing further infection.
