My PS3 just keeps saying unable to read disc. Can this be fixed, or do I have to send it back? My PS3 just keeps saying unable to read disc. Can this be fixed, or do I have to send it back?
My PS3 just quite reading any disc. It accepts the disc, but it doesn't even show up on the main menu screens that a disc is inserted. I reloaded the default hard drive (starting from square one) but that didn't do anything.
It started as a problem in recent weeks where it would freeze on Madden 09 about halfway through (my last 9) a game and you had to shut it off to clear the screen. BD movies were having problems as well that they would freeze, etc.
Now there is just nothing. The disc(s) go in but nothing registers. HELP>

My PS3 was working fine. i had it for about a year then it started freezing a few times when i was playing fallout 3. i thought it was just the game or mabey i had too much on the hard drive so i deleted a few things but it kept happening. then one day it froze and i did the usual power off then on again, except the game wouldnt show up on the screen. i played with it a bit and tried multiple other games and dvds and blu-rays but nothing would show up. and to add insult to injury it happened a week and a half after the 1-year warranty ended. it seems like alot of people are having the EXACT same problem, i have read a few blogs about it on this site and others. it seems like sony should do something about this. im kinda pissed that i hafta pay 150$ and be playstation-less for a few weeks, for a problem that isnt even my fault.
is there anything i can do other then send it in or buy a new one?

When that happened to our PS3 we had to send it back and get a new one because they were having a problem with the blueray readers with the systems. But that problem is suppose to be fix. but more than likely its the reader.

I'm guessing your talking about DVDs and game disks, If your PS3 isn't reading PS3 games anymore but is reading DVDs then your laser could be dieing and you may need a replacement.
If there was any software installed when you played the game the first time, delete it and reinstall. You don't have to delete any of your saved data, just the software the game installed. I've had to do this on a couple of games before. Also, try disconnecting from your network. I hope this helps.
There is an issue with your Blu-ray driver.. It is not working anymore.. it is a very common error among the console.. happened to me too.. im assuming DVDs are still working..
call sony and get your console replaced if its still under warranty that is..
Hello,
first step should be to clean the optical pick up unit. There is a special CD for cleaning of the optical unit (wet method).
If this does not provide a solution please come back and advice.
Best regards,
