Question about Onkyo TX-SV525 Receiver

1 Answer

No sound in surround modes

Sound is apparently "normal" in by-pass mode, but from the front speakers only. No sound from any speakers (2 fr, 2 rear, 1 ctr) in any surround mode from any source. MY receiver stopped playing surround sound in any mode period. Only when I have it in Bypass mode will I have sound through my left and right speakers only. In other words, I have lost the sensationalism of the surround sound when playing movies or music. It has been one yr since it stopped. What can I do to get it repaired? Allen atg51@yahoo.com

Welcome to Fixya! You can try and Repair this Yourself But, It is Pretty Involved. I would locate an Authorized Service Center in your Area for the Repair. You can Locate these from the Onkyo Website. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

there are 2 channel modes on your reciever, as well as surround modes, and it sounds like you have changed modes by accident. just open the little door on the front, and take it out of 2 channel mode

KENWOOD KR-V8030 SPECS

I have had this exact Receiver and this is taken right from the specs. in the manual, "120 watts per channel RMS" at 8 ohms - this is in Stereo mode (2 speakers) only". When surround sound is used, "75 watts RMS for Front and Center speakers and 15 watts RMS for rear (surround) speakers. From experience, the Stereo only mode is definitely stronger/louder than when switching to Surround. Most newer receivers are the same wattage regardless of mode.

Sony STR de845, 5.1 Surround does not work. 3.2 is indicated o

3.2 IS the "5.1" mode for this receiver. 3.2 is indicating that you have 3 front channels and 2 rear channels. The ".1" is applied to all the speakers (LFE). If you read the manual on page 37, you'll see that "3.2" is displayed with either "Dolby Digital 3.2" or "DTS 3.2". The little icons of the speakers in the display window will show you which channels are active. The bottom line is as long as you see the blue light, it's decoding multi-channel discreet surround sound (at least 5.1).

Rear Surround speakers

Best thing to do is to put the unit in 5 channel or 7 channel mode. That will send left ch information to the front left and rear left speakers ( both will get the same information). Ditto with the right channel. The center channel will get centre channel information.

If all the speakers work, go out and rent TOP GUN. ( yes its old), BUT there are a few extreme scenes , one of which is the elevator scene, where the camera changes perspective and suddenly you hear the elevator doors close BEHIND you through only the surround speakers ( have the unit in surround mode....NOT 5 or 7 ch mode ). If this works ok, then you have no problems.

Remember, surround sound only produces information in the rear channels when the information is there. To check out the digital and DTS decoders, get an action flick. If you can, get a remote too, because that will unlock many features about the receiver that you cant get to with the front panel controls. Also go to yamaha and download the owners manual ( its free !!).....that should get you going.....

best of luck...

Speakers not working

They will only have ambient sound (not same sounds as front speakers). Also for each input (video 1, video 2, dvd, tuner, etc...) you need to choose what surround mode you would like to use via the "Listen Mode" button. There is a little pictogram in the display which indicates which speakers are in use.
