If you are sure the belt is slipping, you need to replace the belt. Mine was making a growling noise that sounded like it might have been a slipping belt but it turned out to be a motor drive problem. I fixed mine with a motor/control board kit (ebay) for $155.00. However, there was a note with the kit that indicated that the symptom on that particular model might have been simply a bad cable connection at the motor end of the cable. The wire lugs are crimped-on in the motor connector and could work loose - the motor jumps around quite a lot during spin start-up...

I have a Maytag that had a squeeling belt. I have replaced the belts but there seems to be a fair amount of slack in the belt that drives the agitator and there is no adjustment for this belt.

How to replace the belt on the Maytag Neptune FAV6800AAW?

Remove the back plate of the the washer. Loosen the 1/2" bolt that holds the motor to provide a little "play" in the motor shaft. Loop the belt under the motor shaft onto the pulley. Now pull the belt up onto the large pulley as far up as you can go and start rotating the belt and the pulley together until the entire belt is fed onto the pulley. This will be very tight and not easy. Retighten the 1/2" bolt. Manually rotate the belt and pulley around a few times both ways (clockwise and counterclockwise) to be sure it has seated on the motor pulley and large pulley. If the belt keeps coming off no matter how you reseat it you have a bigger problem.

The Water Pump has a shiney metal retainer that can come partially out and grind into the housing causing the pully to slow and stop.

The link below, courtesy of www.repairclinic.com, shows that the rear bearing comes with the outer tub only and is very pricey! I have been unable to find a service agency that offers just the bearing. Very aggravating. www.maytag.com would be a good place to define your issue.

My Maytag washer will agitate without clothes in it but will not agitate with clothes in.

The belt is not doing it's job. It could be that the belt is worn, if so a replacement can be bought from a Maytag dealer. It is also possible that the belt is just not under the proper tension. Maytag motors are mounted in a slide, and tension is applied by a spring. if the grease in the slide gets old and hard, the slide will stick making for a loose belt. To access, you'll need to remove part of the cabinet. Pop the top loose at the front, remove two screws at the top of the front panel, and release the clips at the bottom to remove the front panel. Free up the slide with some light motor oil and re-assemble.

Loud squeal during wash and spin cycles, maytag atlantis washer

Squealing normal occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks. Check the belt tension as well, most washers have an adjustment, normally on the motor that allows you to increase the tension of the belt.

If part of a belt gets torn and it is long enough, it will hit any part of the washing machine within range and make a clicking noise at every revolution of the motor.

I am pretty sure you need new belts. You should be able to remove a few screws and open the back cover. Between the pulleys there is a tensioner...loosen that so you can remove the belt easily. replace it with a new belt and adjust the tension.

hope this helps
