I have had same problem w/ my TV. When the problem started, the picutre just went out but sound continued. Then an irratic buzzing noise occured. The LAMP light started flashing by the start button. I replaced the lamp ($167!) and still no picture and the irratic buzzing continues and stops afte about 5 minutes. The LAMP light indicator near the start button stays lit. TV will not shut off unless I unplug it.

I have the same problem with our Samsung. We replaced the bulb about a month ago and now the picture is gone and I only have sound. As well as a loud awful buzzing noise. Mine's vibrating the back of the tv. It won't shut off and when it does it turns itself back on. The lamp light is also now flashing again.

It is easy; just look for a video on you tube and with a screwdriver and some care you can fix replace the color wheel yourself.
I replaced mine in fifteen minutes. Note, I had to replace my ballast prior to this so I had a little experience.
Good luck.

Have you had a issue where you heard a high pitched whine or fan like sound?

Examine the color wheel- can be done with lamp removed--look in the opening the lamp faces---is wheel intact or missing any pieces?

The set will turn lamp on for a instant and then off if it detects wheel not moving at full speed or not at all.

Hi Charles,

Sorry for the late reply, I'm offline upon purchasing my service.
You have said that you can hear a low buzzing sound before the unit gone to subsequent shutdown and the lamp blinks green(meaning that the unit try to turn on the lamp for consecutive attempts but not generally mean that the lamp itself is faulty.) and the temp led light come on.

As a matter of fact all the information you have mentioned linked to the symptoms you've encountered right now. A low buzzing sound might be caused by faulty FAN inside the unit that trigger the error code (blinking of the standby/temp led light) and turns off the unit automatically due to thermal protection circuit.
However, the technician might be true also that the buzzing sound came from the faulty color wheel. To confirm it, you have to verify where the buzzing sound came from. Color wheel is in front of the lamp assembly. Faulty color wheel can produce the same symptoms you've encountered right now but most of the time, it shows 3 blinking led light at the front panel (Timer, Lamp, standby/Temp).

I would advice you to open the back cover of your unit, fixed the lamp door safety switch with the tape to make it in closed position( if it is on open position the unit will not power up), and then turn on the unit and observe the fans if will spin or not, and check also where the buzzing sound came from before the unit gone to shutdown.
I've suspected that the fault came from the fan based on the led light flashes. Please let me know what you will discover after following the steps above to verify where the exact fault came from. Also, let me know the exact status of the led light at the front panel, (Timer, Lamp, standby/Temp ), which of them lit solid/blinking, it will help us to narrow the caused of the symptoms.

Check your color wheel. There is a DIY guide for replacing the color wheel. Mine did the same thing yours is and my color wheel was all busted up. Unfortunately after replacing the color wheel my set continues to do the same thing, but this could mean I need to replace the ballast as well.

My 61" Samsung DLP has loud Buzzing sound - Everything else ok

There are only 2 moving parts on a dlp tv the color wheel and the fan. The color wheel needs to be replaced about every 4 to 5 years. Some start to make noise and others like mine blow up with a bang. Go to utube to get instructions on how to replace it only cost me for part $100 good luck

Loud cracking sound, and now, nothing

Hopefully its only the lamp. Inspect lamp for breakage. Lamp power supply ok??. Check any air vents (filters if any) before replacing. Lamp life is only a few thousand hours, easy to do in a year, 5-6hrs a day. Check your manual.
