Take it apart and see if the laser is moving up and down (focusing). If not, then the laser focus servo is bad. After it focuses, the spindle motor should turn and the disc should spin. Remove the spindle lock from the top of the drive case and before it spins quickly place the lock on the disc before it spins to hold the disc in place. If all these processes occur and it still doesn't read, check the lens to see if it's dirty or foggy - clean the lens with "Q" tip and alcohol. if this doesn't work, remove the disk and see if a red beam shines through the lens - if no beam, the laser is bad.

When i try and play my cd games on my computer, it doesn't do anything, so basically it doesn't read the disc not only this it wont even come up with anything on my computer help me !!

Check the Game CD/DVD requirements. If your game CD is newer than your PC, your PC may not be fast enough or you may not have enough memory - RAM - to satisfy the newer RAM hungry games.

OR one of your RAM modules may have failed. Check System memory summary. If the summary says, ie, 128MB RAM, but you have 2 128MB RAM modules installed, 1 RAM module has failed.

OR your CD Drive may have dirty optics. Insert a CD cleaner disk, run it for several cycles to clean off the optics with the brushes on the data side of the cleaner CD.

not necessarily... if the game works on other computers... it isn't the game... make sure there's no dust... dirt... fingerprints... ect. on the disk... open the drive... get a can of air... use the straw... and blow it out... if it still doesn't work... then the drive might not support that game... and you'll need to upgrade it.

one idea is to check and make sure they are all cds and some not dvd or blue ray. and verify that your rom drive is cd/dvd,also try to load the cd and open my computer and see if it even acknowledges that there is a disk in it.if so just double click te icon for the rom drive and run the cd that way.

Non-recognition of disks in cd drive

Your CD-drive is failing to read the blank disk.
Thus, it cannot confirm that the disk is blank.
Replace the CD-writer -- it's "dead".

More then likely not, just a reg error, Try this click "start" "run' type in "regedit" then ok, in the feflt field click the "+" next to "Hkey_Local_Machine" + next to "System" + next to "CurrantControllSet" + next to "Control" + next to "Class" click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} in the right field, right click on "Upper Filters" then "delete" right click on "Lower Filters" then "delete" restart pc. Hope this was helpfull. GL

DVD CD-R drive does not recognize a blank CD on toshiba sattelite

Try this before you enter disk.
  1. setup software or files to transfer when prompted to enter CDR, then place in drive.
  2. Or open my computer, select cd drive right click select, format disk. When prompt comes up for disk insert CDR.
Some systems have trouble with other manufactured formatted disk.
