Usually it's a contact problem, try to reattach the cables to the device and see if it helps.

Installing purchased Anti Virus program has been challenging. After several attempts to download - no success.

Several firewalls are known to interfere with the download of Anti- Virus software. I recommend you switch it off while downloading and installing the Anti-virus. Some even recommend removing the firewall and installing it after you have installed the Anti-virus.

How do i restore my compaq presario v2000 to factory condition without recovery CDs, F10 and F11 not working and NO System Recovery option in the start menu

Your computer is infected with viruses. Solution: install and update anti-virus. You can use anti-virus free (Avira or AVG). Perform a virus scan process, with the option, if a virus is detected, the primary action "Repair" and secondary action "Quarantine".

hopefully help

Whenever I connect any removable drive automatically 4 shortcuts got created of control panel.

You have a virus on your PC. Unfortunately, once you have this virus, it usually does not help updating your anti virus and running a scan since the virus is running in the memory of the PC and every infected file the anti virus removes - the virus just puts back again. Try one of two things to remove the virus:

1] First update your anti virus (if you dont have an anti virus, download the free AVG Antivirus and install that and then update it. Click here to go to AVG's website. Once installed - Boot your pc into SAFE MODE. This is VERY important otherwise the virus will load into memory and it wont help running the anti virus to clean the system as the memory resident virus will just replace any infected file that is removed by the scan. To boot your PC into safe mode: Read this article: Click here.

Once you are in safe mode - Open the Anti-virus console and do a complete system scan.

2] Remove the infected hard drive from your PC and install it as a secondary drive in a clean, VIRUS PROTECTED PC!!! ... i.e .. any pc that has the latest anti-virus system installed and is up to date!. Once you have installed the infected drive in the protected PC as a secondary drive, run a scan on the infected drive and remove the virus.

Once you have removed the virus, also scan ANY USB devices on that PC, including any Cameras, cellphones, photo frames, etc that you might have plugged into the infected PC.

Good luck

Cloned hard drive "C" (WD 40GB) to A Deskstar 8oGB using external enclosure. When I remove the old drive and install new drive and boot up I get Msg drive 0 not found retry or enter setup. If I enter setup...

there are few thing you ahve to keep in mind

there are two type of hard disk
1. IDE
2. SATA

As per your hdd capacity it should of IDE type.

Now there are two IDE slots on motherboard. One is Primary and other is Secondary

You can fix two hdd with one IDE Slot that mean you can fix up upto faour IDE hdd at a time

Now again there are Primary master and Primary Slave

and

Secondary Master and Secondary Slave

Now You have to examine what was the location of previous hdd
1 Primary Master
2 Primary Slave
3 Secondary Master
4 Secondary Slave.

Now you have to make a HDD master or Slave.

just in between data cable connector and power cable connector there is a jumper. that specify the master or slave. do reply me if it works well thanks

Cannot find primary or secondary drives

you need to enter the BIOS as the computer starts by tapping del or the keycombo your dell asks for to enter startup or BIOS setup, i vaguely remember f2 or f10, but the combo is posted on the screen as you start the computer.
once in the bios, the first screen should show your harddrive on the primary and your cd rom on the secondary. If you can reset these to "auto", restarting the computer should auto detect them unless a cable is lose inside or you have a virus . try this and post again here...

Operates fine, than all of a sudden, the printer disappears.

That sounds a lot like the driver software is unsuccessful in installing or you have something like anti-virus or anti-spyware that is stopping the installation from completing all it's stages successfully.

Try downloading the latest version of the software then disconnecting from the internet before temporarily disabling your anti-virus and anti-spyware software and THEN installing the driver again.

As a general rule it's better to have the printer unplugged from the computer while you do this and then plug in when prompted...

The computer will want to reboot and finish the install so do this when prompted and make a note of any errors you receive if you get any.

Hope this helps.

Setting up a Computer to install Windows XP Professional.

Pedro -

I'll assume each of these is an IDE device, meaning each has a wide connector versus a narrow SATA connector commonly found on newer hard drives.

Your motherboard should have two IDE channels, labeled IDE 1 and IDE 2, Primary IDE and Secondary IDE, or something similar. Each IDE channel can support two devices.

For best performance between the drives, you will want to have the Hard Drive connected as Master(Drive 0) on the Primary IDE channel; The CDROM should be connected as Slave(Drive 1) on the Primary IDE channel. Connect the DVDROM as Master(Drive 0) on the Secondary IDE channel, and the ZIP Drive as Slave on the Secondary IDE channel.

When connecting the drives, make sure you set the jumpers correctly; Both the Hard Drive and the DVDROM should have their jumpers set to Master, the CDROM and Zip drives should have their jumpers set to Slave. An alternative is to set the jumpers for every drive to Cable Select(CS), allowing the physical connection of each drive to determine whether its a Master or Slave device.

*Note*
If your Hard Drive is a SATA device, connect it to the '0' or '1' SATA connector on the motherboard. Have the DVDROM set up by itsself as Master on the primary IDE channel, the CDROM as Master on the Secondary IDE channel, and the ZIP as Slave on the Secondary IDE channel.

Hope this helps!

Computer won't run windows and come up with a trap-handler error

on the IDE Port, set the jumpers to the hard drives/cdrom on CS(Cable Select) this lets the BIOS and the ribbon cable decide which is primary (Master) and which is secondary (Slave) on that IDE cable. if they were configured wrong you would get an error.

If the IDE channel is no good, try switching the primary and secondary IDE ribbon cables.
