It's not automatic. Page 24 - You have to register it with them...

The clear protective film on the DCP501 display must be removed and transferred to the inside back cover of your
DCP501 Home Theater System User Guide. The Unit Address and Serial Number found on the protective film is
required for activation of your DCP501 cable TV receiver by your cable TV service provider.

Shaw cable ref code:S0a00 ,what does it mean

Your Shaw Digital Terminal (or PVR) is not authorized to receive that specific channel -- you need to call Shaw to "subscribe" to that channel.

I have an onkyo tx-sr308 and I am receiving only static or very low music on my right speaker channel. Please help

Switch to the other set of speaker outputs (move from A to B). If it continues, you have a repair issue...assuming it happens with all inputs. If it only happens with DVD, or CD, or Tuner, or whatever, but works fine with other components, it's a connection issue - unplugging and replugging, or replacing cables may correct.

If I recall correctly, that unit doesn't have a standard twist knob style balance control. If it does, turn the unit off and rotate it through it's full range several times, then recenter it and try listening to it again.

AVR-4800 - After 30 min audio goes out all channels just hum/buzz

if it is under warrantee then fix it.
sounds like a component is over heating, probably cost couple hundred (or more) to fix it, balance that with what you paid.

Do not receive any channels

If you got a credit card looking thing, put it in. Reset the unit. If that doesn't work, call AT&T. Since you are a paid subscriber, they will be glad to walk you through the setup.
We don't provide passcodes on this site.

The power swich wont let it out of standby and the cd player wont work

pull the plug from the wall outlet, and wait for one hour and plug again,it's like you reboot the system, problem like this ,your player needs to clean, this is symptom of dirt and hardened grease in the rail chrome bars. The slider mechanism, depending on the age of the unit and consists of the small chrome rail, a drive motor, a small gear assembly, and (in some units) a small belt that drives the slider unit via the motor. This small belt causes all sorts of problems. If the belt is broken or slipping, it can cause skipping, dropouts, or simply no start up at all. Also, if the belt breaks in the middle of the disc, the drive mechanism gets hair or dirt wrapped up into the gears, or the pick-up assembly doesn’t return to the start position (called home), the unit will (99% of the time) refuse to release the disc, causing it to become stuck inside the unit. There’s a little micro or leaf type switch located at home position that sometimes gets dirty or breaks and, causing this problem also. if i helped, please click fixya,it is the only way i get paid for my works...

Everytime I put the tv on or switch channels the auto tune channel scanning comes on. This is also hapening to my sisters. I have unpluged and retuned but it still keeps happening?????????

Your unit needs to clean and some resoldering works due brittle, crack or cold solder joint parts, this is very common to this unit.Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....If i have helped, please click fixya. It is the only way i get paid for my work...

Good luck:

Center channel turns scratchy.

Sorry to inform you, The driver transistors or IC is going bad, or there might be a poor solder connection on the center channel Amp. If you know how to solder, you may be able to poke around at the center channel amp circuit, with a wooden or plastic tool, and maybe see where the bad connection(s) are. To get a shop to looki at this unit, may not pay, but that is all up to you, on how much you paid for the unit, and how much your willing to pay to get it fixed. Read this great article and see if it helps you to decide. http://www.techlore.com/article/10602/How-to-Determine-if-you-Should-Repair-a-Broken-Device/ Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.
