Ice maker freezing up at water chute.

It's probably the water fill valve seeping which requires replacing that valve on the back of the refrigerator.

What to do if your ice maker stops working

Many refrigerators now come with built-in ice makers. Ice makers are very convenient, but occasionally they'll develop problems. Why pay a repairman to come out if the fix is easy and you can do it yourself?

Here are some tips for fixing an ice maker that stopped working.

- Check the on/off switch

Freezers with automatic ice makers have a switch that is used to turn the ice-making feature on or off. This switch is typically a rod above the ice box; when it's lowered, the ice maker is on, and when it's raised the ice maker is off. If the ice box fills up with ice, the ice can force the rod up, turning off the ice maker. Check this bar to be sure it is in the lowered position.

- Check if the auger or chute is clogged

Your ice maker has a chute where the ice falls from the freezer into the external tray (where a glass is placed). There is also an auger inside the freezer that rotates to drive the ice forward from the ice box into the chute. Check the chute for large chunks of ice that may be clogging it up, and check the auger for ice cubes or chunks that might have gotten wedged between the auger and the freezer, causing the auger to be unable to rotate.

- Check the water line

If you still haven't found the problem, check the water line leading into the freezer. This water line has its own valve. Make sure the valve is open, allowing water into the freezer to create the ice.

Ice maker will not fill with water.

You mean " Why The Water Doesn't Fill the Tray in Kenmore Ice Maker?"
Am i right to your question? Well, Kenmore brand refrigerators often have an ice maker that uses the water supply to create ice inside the freezer compartment. Some models have an ice dispenser on the freezer door for easy access, and others simply create ice and deposit it into a tray inside the freezer. While most ice makers should work well with basic maintenance and care, issues may occasionally arise. One such problem is if the water does not fill the tray to create ice inside the ice maker. Resolving this issue may be possible through some troubleshooting efforts.

1 Remove the ice bin from the freezer.

2 Fill a turkey baster with hot water.

3 Spray hot water from the turkey baster into the tube at the back of the ice maker, which may be frozen or clogged.

4 Repeat spraying water into the tube until the blockage or frost is removed.

5 Replace the ice bin into the unit.
Please let me know if this help you.

Frig ice maker just quit. It is a side by side w/door dispenser. The H2O works. Anything that I can check before calling the repair man

Yes, Check the folllowing things in this order:

Make sure the plug where the ice maker plugs in inside the freezer isn't loose. Sometimes just unplugging and re-inserting the plug will fix it. If ok, read on...

You'll need a good flashlight. Open the freezer door. Remove the ice bucket. Shine the flashlight at the water inlet and chute to the ice maker and check for an ice clog. This is the point at which the water enters the ice maker. If you see an ice blockage, you can thaw it out with a hair dryer, but be careful not to get things too warm or you can warp plastic parts. If your unit has a water chute, remove it first and thaw it out separately.

Next, if the above isn't the cause, pull the machine away from the wall, follow the water line on the back of the unit down from where it enters the freezer compartment, and it should lead to the water fill valve. Remove the back cover or panel. Make sure you have water coming to the valve. You can loosen the fitting to the valve from the water supply slowly with a pan under it to catch any water that may come out. If water pressure is present, it could be the valve or on some units, an inlet screen to the valve may be clogged. If no water, then there's a problem with the supply somewhere, but this isn't as likely because you said the water dispenser works. You will need to turn off the water to the appliance before going any further. After the water is off, remove the inlet fitting and check again for water pressure. If ok, look at the inlet to the water valve and see if anything is clogging the valve. If so, clean it out, re-connect everything, and turn the water back on. Check for any leaks. Open the freezer compartment and cycle the ice cut off arm (move it up and down carefully). Wait several minutes to see if the ice maker fills with water. You should hear a click at the water fill valve. If it does work, discard the first round of ice cubes because you had the water line off and the ice could be contaminated.

If still no luck, you can check the water inlet valve with a test meter, but this requires familiarity with electrical apparatus. It's possible to power the water valve from a separate electrical source to test it, but only if you know how. This can be dangerous, so if you aren't comfortable doing this, it's best to call for repair. If the water valve checks out, then you may have a bad ice maker, especially if the unit is over 10 years old.

The ice maker on my refrigerator has stopped making ice. Water is still flowing but the tray doesn't fill and the whole mechanism seems not to function.

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If the ice maker dumps the frozen cubes , but doesn't refill with water , you should replace the water inlet valve , behind the refrig , where the wall water line connects to . If the Ice maker does not eject the frozen cubes , replace the ice maker .
Also , check the ice maker fill tube , from the back wall inside the freezer , to the ice maker fill cup , to see if it's frozen . If so , you will need to remove it , and clean the ice out . This would be caused by a " seeping " bad water valve also .
Check the coils under the refrig , to make sure they are clean of dust , lint , pet hair , etc , as this will raise the freezer temp above 5 degrees , which is the temperature which the ice maker needs to operate properly .

Ice maker doesn't work

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps the cubes , but doesn't fill with water , replace the water inlet valve ( the piece that the wall water line connects to on the fridge ) . Also check to be sure that the fill tube from the back of the freezer to the ice maker , isn't blocked with ice , as this is caused by a seeping bad water valve . If the ice maker doesn't dump the cubes , after freezing , then replace the ice maker . Also check to make sure the coils under the front of the refrig , are clean of dust , lint , pet hair , etc.

All water underneath.ice in the bottom.freezer working.not making

If I understand you correctly your water line that comes through the back wall of the freezer and into the icemaker is frozen. If so you have a bad water valve. When the valve goes bad it will not seal off the water. It will seep causing a slow drip where the water comes out at you icemaker. It'd slow enough to freez causing a ice blockage. This will not allow water to come through and fill your icemaker when it calls for water.

Maytag ice maker will not release cubes

Sounds like it has a " seeping " water valve . Only thing to do is replace the water inlet valve . There is a certain amount of water to go into icemaker at fill . A seeping valve will let water continually drip into icemaker , making large cubes which icemaker cannot dump . A larger amount of seeping , will overfill the icemaker , and drip into the freezer and floor .

Inside freezer is icy and water cant get in to make ice.

the water valve is probably bad. it leaks slowly into that tube and freezes up solid causing this problem.
  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.
