It would be cheaper to buy a new printer than to get that one repaired...they run about 40.00 new and it would save some money in your wallet

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The could be 2 causes for a carrier jam error:

  • the encoder strip has ink smudges or bits of paper sticking to it; check, clean. The encoder strip would be the long but narrow clear plastic strip with barcode like markings. Other than the small bars, there should be no obstruction when a light is hined through it;
  • the guide rod. It is possible that the lubricant on the guide rod has dried up. The guide rod is where the carriage moves along. check, clean lubricate.
Post back how things turned up. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Did you try all the steps as mentioned in the link given to you?And did you try a reset by unplugging all the cords of the printer for 30min. and then plug them back in.Please let me know.

  • Priya darshan Jan 31, 2009

There are two thngs that may cause the carriage to
appear jammed - either the carriage really is jammed, or the encoder
that measures the carriage position is giving an incorrect reading
making it appear the carriage is jammed.

    Open the lid. Does the
carriage move to the center or is it blocked? With the lid open unplug
the power and try to move the carriage back and forth. If the carriage
moves smoothly then you should clean the encoder strip which looks like clear plastic strip with the markings on it.

  • Priya darshan Jan 31, 2009

Before trying this home remedy i suggest you to get it repaired if the printer is under warranty.Do not attempt to do this if your printer is under warranty.

"The transparent encoder strip is the most important thing to fix it. Using
rubbing alcohol and paper towel clean the strip. this problem get
started when the assembly at the carrier stop position get filled with
the dropping ink over the period of time. This assembly can be cleaned
by removing it after getting access to it after removing two sides and
backs of the printer. There are 2 screws in the back should be
unscrewed and rest comes out after pulling the snap.

IF you still face the problem then a physical presence of a tech will be required to fix the issue.

Open it up and make sure that the Ink Cartridges are placed properly. If that's not the problem, it could be the motors inside of it wore out, if it's pretty old you'll need a new printer, they are cheap nowadays. If you don't have the cash then call up the company, I'll get the number for you and I'll comment it to you.

Try first unplugging the printer for ten minutes from power.

If the ink carriage is still jammed, try playing gently with the carriage.

I just bought ink cartridge and says ink low on my lexmark x5650 so i just bought ink cartridges for my hp 4140 and it wont work, is this a cproblem with my computer and not my printers? 2 printers do

As far as the Lexmark printer is concerned, try the steps below:

The problem could be due to a communication failure between one of the printheads (cartridges) and the All-In One (AIO) or by a short in one if the printheads. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge issues:

  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-In-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then carefully slide the carrier to the center.
  3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.
  4. Close the printer cover.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in to, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  7. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

When i print the paper will jam

It could be that your cartridge is not properly inserted into the cartridge carrier. Try to open the printer and remove both your cartridges. Rebrick your printer by removing the power adapter (black box found on the back of your printer where the power cord is plugged in) and re-plugging after 30 seconds. That will give enough time for your printer to reset itself. When your printer turns on, re-insert your cartridges. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

How do you close front to get ink cartridge out

Please follow the steps below on how to change the cartridges on your Lexmark X5650 printer:
  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Lift the scanner unit. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the printer is busy.
  3. Press down on the cartridge carrier latch to raise the cartridge carrier lid.
  4. Remove the used print cartridge. Note: If you are removing both cartridges, repeat step 3 and step 4 for the second cartridge.

I can't find the door? to open to put in a new ink cartridge

For the X5650, with the printer on, lift the scanner unit (lift from near the center - just above the keypad). There are supports on each side that will hold the scanner unit. The cartridge carrier should move into the replacement position. Then press down on the levers at the front of the cartridge carrier to have the cartridge lids open.

If you have tried all of the troubleshooting steps found in the article but still getting the same problem, you might be having a printer mechanical problem. If that's the case, I suggest you call Lexmark at 1-800-LEXMARK(1-800-539-6275) for assistance. Make sure to take note of the serial number found behind the printer.

Lexmark X5650 printer

Hello there
ok try this my help you.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Also clean The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, Caonon and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

I have a lexmark x5650 and evertime I try to print something the paper will feed through on one side and not the other so it doesnt print properly. also it says paper jam. any ways to fix this??

if you have a paper jam error and you don't see a Jam it means the printer just needs to be reset.
Please try this to do a partial reset. Leave the printer on and then unplug it and leave it unplugged for about 1 minute and then plug it back in and turn it back on and see if the problem persists.
About the paper feed, first check the printer preferences, go to start, select printer and faxes. Mark the Lexmark printer, click right mousebutton and select properties from the menu list.
Check that you have set paper size to DIN/A4 and adjust your other settings as needed.
If the problem persist check if you have the latest drivers installed, if this doesn't help I think you will need to contact lexmark support.
