Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV21 Camcorder
I have a Sony CCD-TR21 camcorder. When I try to install a cassette I can push the door close but it won't automatically lower down instead of a few seconds it ejects the tape. When no tape is installed it closes just fine.

Common problem with this mechanism. In order to fix the problem you will have to replace part called CHASSIS LS. Expensive repair, probably not worth the effort.

Testimonial: "Thanks. We ended up getting a new camcorder. That Handycam was as old as I am (18 years), so it was time for an upgrade anyway."
SOURCE: loading tapes
Sony HDR models that the carriage won't close is caused by the mode switch on the chassis. The mode switch controls the cameras function for loading and loading of the cassette. Basically tells the electronics what is happening. This becomes dirty and causes the chassis not to complete it's cycle on eject. Thus staying open. It has no idea where the mechanism is at this time. It can be cleaned and realigned but the chassis needs to be removed to get at it. Definitely a service depot repair. Sorry!
