I went thru the past posts and found the answer. The laser for the CD is gone. I found that there are two lasers , one for the CD and one for the DVD.
The DVD works and the CD does not. Need a new disk player. Thanks anyway and I found the answer.

Can you advise the make and model of the DVD/CD drive and what you have tried to do to resolve the problem so far. Any error messages/codes and a brief description of what happen when this problem started. This will help me diagnose the problem quickly without repeating anything that you have done before. Thankyou

Hello
The laser pickup unit of the DVD player may either be dusty or dirty. Try to clean it, by inserting a lens cleaning disc into the player and play it until it pays completley. Then check it out.
If this do not help you, the laser pickup unit is faulty. It will be best to muy a new Player, rather than try to repair it, especially to computer DVD players. OK.

I recently bought Sims 3 for PC. So, when I open my IBM disk tray and put the disk in, the computer doesn't recognize it and I cannot install the game. This game was a little expenisve, so I would

Hi Elizabeth,

Depending on the model of your IBM PC, it could be that it has a CD drive and not a DVD drive. The Sims 3 game is on a DVD. If this is the case you will have to upgrade your CD player to a DVD player.

To test if your drive is working insert an original music CD into the drive and see if it plays. If it does play you most likely have a CD player and not a DVD player, which means you will have to upgrade to a DVD player/writer drive anyway.
These are relatively inexpensive and retail for approximately $20 to $50.

Feel free to reply should you need any further assistance.
Best wishes,

Cd dvd tray will not open or close and the light is dark. How do I fix this?

Open up the system and look at the wiring connections area.
This might be disconnected. If not, replace the cd/dvd mechanism,
as the cd/dvd player/writer is probably burnt out.

Also, check the BIOS that it is recognized by the motherboard.

Good luck on this one.

How to play a cd

Hello,

Usually the DVD drive or the CD drive has a very small button on the front side of the Drive, if you see a button press it, the tray will come out and you will be able to put the cd on the tray and than press that button again it will take the cd in and will play for you.

However if you feel that difficult, try doing this,
simply go to MY COMPUTER, there you can see your dvd-drive or cd-drive, you can right click on the drive and click on "eject" it will eject the tray just like a normal dvd or cd player and you can insert the disc to play.

if there is anything else i can help you with please let me know.

Thank you.

I have a Sony Vaio desktop with XP. My DVD-CD

Have you tried burning a CD in the new drive? Because the drive is a DVD it will always be recognised as a DVD, but should work perfectly well with CDs both playing and recording.

Compaq V2000 - Service Tag V2220US Only recognizes the CD/DVD drive as "CD" Does not see it as a DVD Drive. Listed as: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A in Device Manager.

Try updating your drivers from www.hp.com

If the issue is that it won't play DVD movies only then you probably need to install or re-install the DVD player software that should have come with your computer. If you don't have it anymore, simply download from HP.

My DVD/CD player does not recognize the CD in the tray

Try cleaning the laser lens with a q-tip in a circular motion. Make sure none of the cotton fibers are left behind.

let me know what happens. If it doesn't work I'll suggest a few more tips.

I want to play mini cds in a standard slot drive in laptop.

You should notice in your cd tray a smaller cutout in the center. That is specifically for mini cds.
