Memory Upgrade - from 256DDR1 to 1GB DDR1

Problem is that after adding the 1 GB pc3200 184 pin dimm memory I'm getting a continueous beeping upon booting up the PC. It finds the additional memory ok but then within a few seconds it beeps.

I even took out the 1 GB memory to leave only the 256 but the result is the same

On the board there's 2 DDR1 slot and 2 DDR2 slots.
Intel Pentium 4 2.4mhz
Model p4vmm2
Type X86

    Thanks map9966

I have tried a few times re inserting the 256 DDR with the same result. Could it be there's some other problem? What about the 1GB DDR PC3200, you said that it should be PC2100. Is it possible that have caused problem

If you go to the ECS website, there is the option to download the manual for the motherboard (make sure you get the right version). The manual will point out which jumpers you have to move or remove to get the memory to work. Hope this helps

Sysa007,
EliteGroup makes two mother boards, P4VMM2, (No Revisions) & (P4VMM2 revision 8.1). Since your question states your memory is 184 pin DIMM your board must be, v 8.1. What does not make sense is the motherboard has two memory slots total.
(If you have 4 memory slots on the MB than the MB can not be the P4VMM2). Below is the link for the P4VMM2 (v8.1).
http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?CategoryID=1&TypeID=1&DetailID=436&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=45&LanID=9

The P4VMM2 v 8.1 can only use, two Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM memory modules. These sockets support up to 1GB system memory using 184-pin unbuffered non-ECC PC2100 or PC1600 DDR DIMMs. The two DIMMS you are using must run at the same speed.
Example PC2100 266MHz. OR PC1600 266MHz.
Continuous beeping means the memory is not seated correctly.
When using only one DIMM it should be inserted in the slot closest to the CPU. Re-check your memory. Remove & reseat. Make sure the latches snap closed on each stick of memory while inserting. Below is all of ECS P4VMM motherboards;
http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/SearchResult.aspx?q=P4VMM2&f=Products&MenuID=104&LanID=9

Good luck sysa007!

Upgrade ECS FSB800 memory from 1 GB to 2 GB wont work

This board will support up to 2gb as shown below extacted from the website product page.Don't forget that if you have ddr 333 memory installed originally, you can only add the same clock speed memory, i.e. ddr 333. If you add ddr333 and ddr400 you will have problems as the clock speeds do not match. If you are matching clock speeds, the try bootin the system with the new piece of memory on its own to see if there is a problem with that stick, trial an error of both sticks individually, will give a positive result

DDR2 RAM for P5RD1-VM

The ASUS P5RD1-VM takes the PC2700/3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. You can upgrade your ASUS P5RD1-VM to up to a maximum of 2.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory. For best system performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your system i.e. 1 GB.

Thanks

Memory upgrade for P6VEM3 MB

For this mainboard, you must use 168-pin, 3.3V unbuffered PC100 or PC133 SDRAM memory modules. You can install any size memory module from 32 MB to 512 MB, so the maximum memory size is 2 x 512 MB = 1 GB. As noted on pg. 9 of your manual. Shut down your system. Remove one dimm of memory & start the Pc. Does it boot & do you have video? No? Shut down & replace the the dimm with next stick of memory. Try again. Still no video? Replace memory with old memory. Did you regain video? In most cases of installing new memory it's found the memory just wasn't seated well enough. In few others the memory did not meet the correct voltage.
prazum post back your findings.

Can't Install RAM in DDR2 and DDR3 DIMM slots

You cannot use DDR and DDR2 ram at the same time, because its always been like that (ie, no SD and DDR, or SD and RIMM)

What you should do is switch to all DDR2 sticks.

Intel ASUS P4 845 GL Motherboard

Hi, For an ASUS P4BGL-VM Intel 845GL Chipset Ultra ATA100 MATX CPU Type: Intel Pentium 4 478-Pin (OEM), the Asus site specifies max of 2 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 2GB PC2100 / PC1600 non-ECC DDR or SDRAM memory but not "and". Personally, I find it more practical to install 2 X 1Gb rather than a single 2Gb. Hope this gives you some idea. Kind regards.
