Question about Sony VAIO VGN-SZ340 Notebook

1 Answer

Wireless network connection

I have a home wireless network. I originaly had an Xbox 360, a Dell desktop and a Dell laptop in the network. the network worked fine with these three units. I recently added a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ340 to the wireles network. When I turn on or off the Sony Vaio it disconnects the wireless connection from the desktop, the other laptop and XBox 360. If the Sony Vaio is not turned on, I can turn on and off any of the other items and it does not effect the other items. How do I get the Sony Vaio from logging off the other units when they are all connected?

Re: Wireless network connection

You may need to run the network wizard, as your sony may not be set up as using a gateway type connection and may be instructing other pcs to connect via itself and not on the network.

Why can't my Dell desktop computer pick up my wireless connection? It keeps telling me a cable is unpluged but the wireless service is working fine.

Most desktop computers, and especially office models, do not have integrated wireless networking like laptops do since they are not portable. They were designed for wired network cabling. If the desktop HAS wireless capability, there would need to be an expansion card installed and a wireless antenna protruding from the back, or it needs a wireless transmitter/receiver dongle plugged into a USB port. If it doesn't have either of these, it probably doesn't have wireless. However, wireless connectivity is as easy as getting a wireless USB dongle for about 35-40 USD.

How to make a wireless connection to an xbox with a panoosnic Panosoic wireless Lan adaptor N5HBZ0000055

Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.

Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.

Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)

Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead.

Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
Save your settings and verify the network is functional.

On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.

I cannot get my new dell mini inspiron to connect to the linksys wireless router in the home network. it cannot even detect the network. How do I fix this?

Have you been able to connect your netbook to other wireless networks? Do you have anything else connected to your home wireless network? Can you see your home wireless network using a different computer?

If you can't see other wireless networks check to make sure your wireless card didn't get shut off. Usually there's an on/off switch on a laptop to do this, or a combination of function keys.

If you can see other wireless networks and just not your own, try the wireless network's settings on the router. If you do have some type of security, I'd start off troubleshooting with no security, then move up to WEP, then WPA, then WPA2 in that order, or at least as high as you can get with the options available on your router. It might be that your wireless network is too secure for what your Mini 10 can handle.

No, it's probably because you have setup a wireless home network with security in place.

Go through the settings on your husband's notebook settings for your home network and set your Dell up the same way. You will need to know the SSID for the wireless network, security type and key to set it up.

How do i use my built in wireless connection to connect to the internet, please.

make sure that your wireless or wifi light is on,you may try to press Fn and F2 at the same time to enable or swith on wireless..if wifi is already on,try going to start >> control panel >> network connections,go to wireless network connection and double click it, it will give you a list of wireless network,or right click and then "view available wireless network", if you get an error that windows cannot configure wireless connection,go to start >> all programs >> loo for either dell wlan utility or intel pro wireless, by opening that app,it will also search for wireless network in range, just double click on the network name where you want to connect and you sould be connected provided that "wireless network" doesnt have encryption like wpa or wep key..if your connecting to your home network, you should have wireless router at home and wireless is enabled on the router.
