Question about Washing Machines

How do I hook up washer drain pipe?

I just purchased a new GE washer from Sams Club, but it did not come with installation instructions or hoses. I have connected my old water lines, and they work fine; however, when I went to hook up my old drain hose, I discovered my new washer has a different type of connector. It does not have any external nipple to connect to. Can you help?

You'll need to seek the advice of a home repair or appliance repair - as your description of your connectors is vague.

They likely have the appropriate adapters.

My front loading GE washer WSSH300 will not drain.

Don't know if this will help or not, but your owners manual is available at http://genet.geappliances.com/DocSearch/Dispatcher
Water won’t drain
Drain hose is kinked or •
Straighten drain hose and make sure washer is not improperly connected sitting on it. Top of drain outlet should be less than 8 ft. (2.5 m)
above floor. Household drain may • Check household plumbing. You may need to call be clogged a plumber. Plumbing this washer directly to a pipe is hard on the motor. Usually the drain hose elbow is inserted in a stand pipe, meaning the washer would drain water on the floor is the stand pipe is clogged.
Several items can cause the lack of draining.
If you can get to the drain hose, try lowering to a point that it will drain into a bucket. If it drains the system is not clogged. If you advance the timer and the washer drains this maybe the culprit. The motor can overheat and shut off. I would advance the timer to spin and listen for a hum in the motor and then quiet, a sign that the motor has overheated. If the water drains it sounds like the timer is at fault.
I would first make sure the drain hose is properly installed and not kinked somewhere. In earlier GE's the water drain pump could clog, your manual doesn't indicate that as a defect. Regardless timer, motor and pump are in the cycle to empty the washer water.

My water is draining out of my machine as it is filling, Why?

This is a condition known as syphoning. Your drain hose on the washer needs to go up before it connectes to the house drain. It needs to rise as high as the washing machine top then hook over the drain pipe. If the drain hose is pushed too far into the drain pipe this can also cause syphoning.

Here are some tips to help describe this better.

Is the drain hose extending more than 8" (20.3 cm) into the drainpipe?
The drain hose may be too far down inside the drainpipe (standpipe) or laundry tub. Drained water can siphon back into the washer if the drain hose extends too far. Make sure that the drain hose does not extend more than 8" (20.3 cm) into the drainpipe or laundry tub. Using the U-shape drain hose form (as described in the Installation Instructions), will provide the correct length of drain hose in the drainpipe or laundry tub.
Drain hose form

Is the drain hose taped onto the drainpipe? Is top of the drainpipe covered in tape?
Do not seal the drain hose into the drainpipe with tape. The drain hose should be loose, yet secure. There must be a gap between the drain hose and the drainpipe to allow air to flow. The air gap will break the suction. This will keep water from being continuously sucked out of the machine (siphoning) as it fills.
Is the drainpipe (standpipe) less than the minimum height of 39" (99 cm)?
Make sure that the top of the drain is at least 39" (99 cm) high (as measured from the floor.) If the drain is below 39" (99 cm), the water will start to flow out of the machine due to gravity. The flow of water can create suction (siphon) and the water will continue to drain out of the washer.

NEED TO KNOW HOW TO INSTALL DARIN HOSE

Washer should come with a drain hose, which is just inserted into the hole at the bottom of the back side of the machine, and held in place with two screws (about #8 x one inch long screws) Make sure the pipe the outlet of the drain hose goes into is at least 30 inches above the floor and is not sealed to the hose.

Water continuously runs and cycle won't start. The washer tub doesn't seem to be filling with any water.

Probably a syphon problem . Check your drain hose to make sure hose is not stuffed too far down drain and air can get between the hose and the drain pipe . If you have tapped the hose to the drain to keep water from comming out the drain pipe , go to home depot or an appliance parts house , and get a syphon break . When a washer fills , but water level doesn't rise in the machine , it's being sucked out by syphoning thru your sewer pipe .

Washer drain problem

You have no problem with the washer, your problem is the pipes have a build up in the that is restricting the outflow of the water. This happened to me and I replaced the pipes.

GE Drain Hose

Hi, Does this washer have to pump the water up into a drain? If it is possible, it would be better for the machine if you can bring the drin pipe closer to the washer. I know it is not always a possibilty. The longer the drain hose, the harder it is on the washer and sometimes the cloths don't spin out as dry as they will with a short drain hose.

Washer hose too short!

Be sure its not your drain pipe. Incorrect installation should be covered by the installer, but warranty companies are covering install failures for 30 days....contact the installer and place a damage report. Take pictures of the damage....also call the manufacturer, inform them of the problem they will want a technician to take a look at the unit...again will cover install failue for 1st 30days(at no charge to you) so the service company should not charge you anything. Drain hoses are usually a standard 3 feet long i believe. I'm not aware of any factory extension kit. but if you go to a hardware store and by some rubber tubing large enough to fit your drain hose and go to the drain, secured with a hose clamp at the hose and a ziptie at the drain, that should work fine.

New hook up for drain on a GE WBB4500GOWW.

On some models, their is a female drain hose that you can purchase from your local appliance parts dealer that should be inserted only. Not your traditional clamp type. Runs about $9 dollars or so and tycally has a triangle collar that is connected along with the drain hose. Does this help?
