I have a Street Pilot c330 (3 years old) and it won't work unless it's plugged into the car charger (won't work on battery). Does anyone know why? Is the internal battery shot?

The internal battery needs to be replaced. They have a shelf life of 2-3 years depending on usage. If you take it to a Batteries Plus, they can replace it for you for around $35.00-$45.00. It is a lithiom ion battery that needs to be soldered back on.

How to charge the battery in the garmin c330

either use a car charger - or home PC USB charger from Garmin.
Off-brand cables tend not to work well - as they have voltage resistance and the sensitive equipment doesn't like.

Garmin c330 won't power on even when charger plugged in

Find the wall charger - most any usb mini that has the right out power amount [ do NOT over do it or you can burn the unit up] - Anyway - try the wall unit - if after 48 hours it refuses to take a charge - get a new one from www.tigerdirect.com for well less than the price of a battery.
Good luck

You can find an auto power cord adaptor for about $10.00 on E-bay. I got a replacement cord about 2 months ago.

C330 indicates low battery although plugged into charger

The internal lithium ion battery is not user replaceable. You will need to have the unit serviced by Garmin.

MY STREET PILOT C330 IS NOT CHARGING.

The battery has probably drained to the point of being "empty", such that it's putting an enormous "load" on the incoming power from your power adapter. For all intents and purposes, it's sucking up so much of the incoming power from your power cable, your Garmin thinks there's little, if any, power available. That's because the drained battery is acting almost like a "short circuit", in electrical terminology. Try leaving the unit plugged into the charger for a day or two or three; if the battery hasn't been permanently damaged, it may come back to life enough fully, or at least enough to not act like a "short" across the incoming power power.

Garmin C330

It sounds like the battery is either dead (will no longer take a charge) or has become disconnected. My bet would be dead battery.

What is the purpose of the car plug with the c330?

If you charged the GPS using the USB cable from a computer, this is too low a current for the size of battery that it has. You must use the dedicated AC charger, or the car charger.

If your unit has a battery in it that is older than about 3 to 4 years, it is possible that the battery is no longer able to hold the full charge.

The service rep for your GPS can change the battery for you if it is no longer holding the charge.
