Hey I just bought the Makita LS1016 and my release button is jammed. The saw works great but the button is stuck in the "on" position which has eliminated a positive stop at 0 degrees when changing the bevel. This is quite a pain when I need to quickly reset to zero. Any idea how to free the release button? I have rotated the saw in every direction with every button and lever pressed and not pressed. I'm at a loss. Thanks.

Oil the lock push rod at front and back ends. The steel rod in the pot metal glide holes. Mine kept locking and after replacing some of the parts it did the same thing, so I pile the rod and all works great!!!

Try a squirt of wd-40 or crc to free up the button. The anti rust spray used in assembly has probably got sticky and is jamming the shaft of the button

Sounds as if the blade is dull. Or perhaps bent. A dull or bent blade blade will 'grab' the wood, rather than cut it, resulting in binding, or kickbacks.

Solution; replace the blade with a fine-toothed, good quality blade. If the blade is new, then check that the blade is bolted tight on the arbor. If the blade is loose, it can result in kickbacks.

Also, check that all the bolts/fasteners/locking mechanisms on the saw are tight, and in good working order. Sometimes a tool new out-of-the-box will have loose screws/nuts/bolts that need to be tightened up.

Also, when cutting, use a smooth, slow, motion, being sure to give the saw the time it needs to make the cut.

Testimonial: "Thank you for the the answer. I will try tightening the screws. I will check the blade also. "

I have a Makita Miter Saw LS1016 cannot get it to lift up, seems to be in lock position. How do I unlock? There is a little pull at pivot point, but doesn't pull out.

If you're talking about the lock that holds it in the lowered postion for moving or transporting the unit, it requires a slight downward pressure before the pin will move. Press down, and then pull the pin. If this isn't lock you're talking about, please provide more details; also, if this is the lock, and it still won't move, it could have gotten bent. If new, contact the manufacturer, if not new, then you might just have to apply more pressure to move it from the detent position.

Hello stella....... There is a locking mechanism on the miter saw to lock it on whatever setting you require. loosen that locking mechanism and the saw should move for you. Here is a schematic of the parts so you can see exactly which parts are involved

Angle lever stuck

I am surprised at that amount of wear in so little use.
Apart from that the first thing to try is WD40 on any stuck item. But don't over force the thing as you might break something

My saw is really stiff when you try to change the angle .I oiled it but this didn't help. I would like to know how to take it apart but I am un sure how to do it and what is in the boxed off area...

Exploded diagram with parts list for LS1016 10" Dual Slide Compound miter saw is here.

Owner's manual is here. If these aren't quite what you need, you can view other models of Makita miter saws, here.

One thing to bear in mind. There's a miter angle lock and a slide lock on the bottom front of the saw. If you don't have the miter angle lock loose enough, it will be difficult to turn the saw.

Hi, need to use drop saw. Have used many times, however husband usually around. He has now passed away, and I know this may sound ridiculous, but have plugged in and can't find power switch or catch to...

If this is a Makita Mitre saw the switch requires 2 operations to engage. First you should see a round button on handle, you need to depress the button and then pull the trigger. I would recommend doing this with the tool unplugged first so you get the feel for it. Second the release button is on the right hand side of the saw, what you need to do is push down on the saw head some and PULL out on the round pin to release. I would recommend also that you go to Makitatools.com and type in your model number and download a owners manual so you can see exactly how to use the tool. Let me know if you need any more help please.
