Ive taken apart my daughters ndsl and replaced the shell. I was very careful removing the ribbon connecting uper screen to lower case and dont think Ive damaged anything. I put the new case on and put all the parts back. The ndsl does not turn on. The bottom screen flashes once and it turns off. Ive read various comments that the ribbon might not be put back into the clip. Ive done this several times with same result. \ive taken apart the two two cases and disconnected them. When I suply power to the base the screen does not come on however the on light stays on. Ive re connected the top ribbon and again turned it on. Neither screen comes on but the green on light stays on. BOTH OF THESE WERE DONE WITH THE WI FI MODEM REMOVED (THE BIT THAT THE BLACK AERIAL CABLE CLIPS INTO). If I try with the wi fi modem connected the bottom screen flashes once and then turns power off. Is something fused? Should the screens work without being connected to each other? Ive tried to identify fault without success. Screens dont work and the wi fi modm seems to be reason that the dsl turns off almost immediately.

most likely its the top screen ribbon.Because when you open the ds all the way it might push the ribbon in just enough to be read but when not open it cant read the top screen and it will shut down.I have instructions on how to change a top screen you can use them to put the ribbon back in. the only difference is you don't need to unplug the white and black wires.First you need a tri wing screwdriver and a cross screwdriver. You can
get both on ebay. Then their are seven screws four tri wing and three
cross. You will need to pry the back off be very careful.Start on the
side that doesn't have the on off switch and work your way around.Once
you have the back off unscrew the two cross screws that hold the logic
board on.Then unplug the white and black wifi
and mic wires they snap on and off. Then flip the logic board over by
pushing the bottom screen out.On the other side is where the ribbon for
the top screen is.To get the hinge apart their are two more cross
screws in the top left corner take them out that releases the
hinge.very carefully roll the ribbon so you can get it through the
metal ring and the wires pull the wires first.to get the top apart the
four cross screws are above and below the speakers
under those small squares.A needle will get them out easily .Once you
get the screws out then slid the back of the top up 1/8 of an inch then
pull the back off carefully. You need to push the screen out and
unsolder the speaker wires or use new ones.Make sure when putting it
back together you roll the new ribbon the right way look at the old one
to find out .Getting the old ribbon out and the new one in is a little
difficult so take it all apart first and get the wires out then the
ribbon and put the ribbon in first.
When you switch the DS lite on you should notice that one of the screens flashes... if thats correct then the screen that doesn't flash is the one that will need replacing which, I would assume is the upper screen as judging by what you say has a damaged ribbon.
Mine works fine!!
Download English 1.18 from the R4 website.
You should have 4 files on your card
you then add the .nds game files from wherever you get them from
Make sure the card is formatted first, ie there are no other files on it. try FAT. rather than FAT 32. I can't remember which but I've had no problems with either the card or the software, best thing since sliced bread, and it only cost me a tenner.
hey i think i got a solution, read the link i gave below credits to votahuan, its for adjusting screen flickers in both top and lower screen of ndsl, however i need you to do me a favor in return, hope you do not mind posting up the pics for me at firstname.lastname@example.org once you found the two hidden screw at ndsl, im just having hard time finding it in fat nds, so i need a rough i dea of where it mite be located. Heere's the link anyways :- LCD FLICKER SOLUTION
Its possible though sometimes it is expensive so dont worth the work.
-Top screen broken: you can buy a replacement and carefully do the work by yourself with the help of a guide (youtube have many) and some tools (3 winding screwdriver is the less common though not much). The foil data ribbon can be bought separatelly for the original NDS though the new NDS lite have it soldered and very difficult to work.
-Broken plastics: a broken hinge means you need to buy a replacement shell. Anyway buy a complete shell from a DS modding shop or take parts from a non broken plastics DS (water damaged one may be good) in a place like ebay. You would be lucky if you find a non broken screens and good plastics DS for parts.
At the end you may be over your repair budget and not only that, you would be very near to buy a new unit with this money. Each one make its own choice.
Hi, replacing the original nds upper screen is a fairly straight forward procedure, you need to remove the 4 x small plastic plugs located in the corners of upper screen, then remove the 4 x phillips screws, the top outer back part of the case will seperate and you can gain access to the screen. Firstly remove the small screw holding down the right hand pcboard to gain access to the ribbon connectors, release the larger flat connector by hinging the clip up, slide the ribbon out, underneath you will see a tiny connector, gently ease the small clip back towards the ribbon, prising a little each side at a time, remove the ribbon and then you can prise the screen from the case.
